Netflix recently released some behind-the-scenes first look of Sandman Season 2, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s DC graphic novel series. This sneak-peak came as a part of Netflix’s Geeked Week promotional efforts.

In the behind the scenes look, showrunner Allan Heinberg said, “Everywhere you look, something interesting and horrible is happening.”

He is talking here about a specific event, Tom Sturridge’s Dream throwing a banquet, for a bunch of deities. However, he could also be easily talking about the intricate sets and eerie visuals that await the fans of Gaiman’s Sandman.

Season 2 of Sandman will be adapting the Season of Mists storyline, which focuses on Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) handing the keys to Dream (Tom Sturridge), after abandoning Hell.

Desperate for power, there are a huge number of entities and gods who are after the control of Hell. This is where the Norse Gods come as they are among the potential contenders.

Thor (Laurence O'Fuarain), Loki (Freddie Fox), and Odin (Clive Russell) are the three Norse Gods who will be introduced in the second season and will play important parts in the storyline in further seasons, given the show does not get canceled by Netflix early.

Besides the Norse Gods, the featurette released by Netflix also hints at the possible introduction of Dream’s other siblings, including Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles), Destiny (Adrian Lester), and Prodigal (Barry Sloane). They are shown to be attending a “family dinner” with the rest of the Endless, including Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Death (Kirby), and Despair (Donna Preston).

Sandman follows Morpheus (Sturridge), who is the Lord of a mystical realm, called The Dreaming. He is the keeper of all humanity’s dreams and nightmares. He, along with his siblings - Death, Despair, Desire etc are collectively known as The Endless. They embody the concepts that they have been named after.

While The Endless consists of the most powerful entities of the Universe, they are going to come across some seriously powerful deities in the upcoming season.

Besides the already mentioned ones, the new actors joining the cast of Sandman include:

  • Douglas Booth as Cluracan

  • Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus, Dream’s son
  • Jack Gleeson as Puck
  • Ann Skelly as Nuala
  • Steve Coogan as the voice of the dog Barnabas
  • Indya Moore as Wanda.

While director Jamie Childs and actors Heinberg, Kirby, and Sturridge have all been interviewed for the featurette , Neil Gaiman, after being accused by multiple women of sexual assault, has been kept out of it.

Though Gaiman has denied the acquisitions, there has been no mention of him throughout the featurette. Moreover, two other Gaiman productions, including the final season of Prime Video’s Good Omens and Disney’s feature adaptation of The Graveyard Book have been suspended indefinitely as these allegations surfaced.

Produced by Warner Bros. TV, Sandman Season 2 is supposed to premiere sometime in 2025.
