The supernatural teen drama School Spirits is back with Season 2 on Paramount+, bringing back the fan-adored Maddie Nears and fellow ghost friends. The series debuted in 2023 and follows a high school girl, Maddie, who's investigating her own death as she is trapped in the afterlife under mysterious circumstances.
Maddie ends up being a part of the Split River High Afterlife Support Group and cannot recall how she died. However, when her living friends try to find out the truth, they discover blood in the school’s basement, suggesting foul play. As Maddie and the police start the investigation, her estranged mother and boyfriend, Xavier, become prime suspects.
However, School Spirits isn't just about Maddie's quest. The drama also introduced fans to ghosts like Walley, Charlie, and Mr. Martin, and how can we forget Rhonda— a ghost trapped in purgatory since the 1970s.
Like most of the ghosts, Rhonda also met a tragic end when she was killed by her guidance counselor, Mr. Manfredo. What's worst about her tragic fate is that she trusted Mr. Manfredo more than her parents and never thought he would kill her.
As seen in Season 1, her traumatic journey in the afterlife is highly influenced by her death. Due to the past events surrounding her death, Rhonda's spirits find it hard to move on.

Rhonda was killed by her guidance counselor in School Spirits
School Spirits is undeniably an intriguing drama that blends supernatural elements with crime and suspicion. While Maddie Nears remains the key focus of the drama, it also explores the backstories of other ghosts in Split River High, including Rhonda.
She's also a part of the Split River High Afterlife Support Group and was introduced in the very first episode of School Spirits. Unlike every member of the group, Rhonda didn't seem to have liked Maddie at first.
As seen in Season 1 Episode 1, Rhonda pretends to be cool and unbothered, but she has been struggling to move on. Being a 1965 victim strangled by her guidance counselor, Rhonda is navigating a limbo-like state and is tied to Split River High.
The shocking betrayal from Mr. Manfredo has left Rhonda filled with trauma and pain. However, with time, Rhonda starts opening up to other spirits, and even Maddie, who's also navigating her own mysteries and struggles in the afterlife.

Rhonda's story so far: What happened to her in School Spirits Season 2?
Since the first season, Rhonda has significantly contributed to Maddie's quest to find out the truth. The group found out about Janet, who took over Maddie's body and lived her life in the real world. This means that just like Rhonda, Maddie also ended up in a limbo-like state.
Together, the group continues to search for answers, and in Season 2 Episode 3, "Can't Hauntly Wait," the ghosts learn about their death objects, and Rhonda's death object is her college acceptance letter.
When she goes to the guidance counselor’s office, Rhonda gets transported back in time and relives the moments before her tragic death. The experience is incredibly upsetting and traumatic for Rhonda as she could feel the pain of the betrayal.
Since the fourth episode is scheduled to arrive on February 6, 2025, fans have to wait to find out how death objects affect the spirits.
