Jenna Ortega's Wednesday is the third-most successful show Netflix has ever created, thanks to her stunning portrayal of the gothic heroine and Tim Burton's outstanding direction that won him an Emmy nomination.

The show, a spinoff on the dark and mysterious Addams family, was an immediate hit among fans, earning Ortega her big break, several awards, and a concrete position in the industry for being one of the best actresses of her generation.

The actress carried on the legacy of the iconic character, who was previously played by Lisa Loring in the original project; Christina Ricci in the subsequent films, followed by Nicole Fugere, Krysta Rodriguez, and Rachel Potter. As the character of Wednesday progressed in depth, it also progressed in age. Loring's Wednesday was 6 years old, followed by Ricci, who played a slightly older version of Wednesday. Fugere, Rodriguez, and Potter played teenage versions of the heroine. Cut to Jenna Ortega's Wednesday, who is around 15-16 years old in the series.

In the next season, which is highly awaited and will take us back to the dark Nevermore Academy, Ortega will probably play a more grown-up version of Wednesday.

Everything we know about Wednesday 2

Wednesday 2 is looking promising with a stellar cast and Burton returning to his director's chair. Lady Gaga has recently joined the team, although the details of her role are not quite clear.

In May 2024, Netflix confirmed that filming was underway and that it had concluded production in December. As per reports and speculations, the series should hit our screens in 2025.

Ortega's comeback is one of the biggest highlights of the show as she's once again stepping into her gothic, sadistic alter ego. Talking to Entertainment Tonight about the second season, she said:

“I kind of want her to be darker. I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe, because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of a competitiveness. Kind of, ‘Man, how’s this guy doing this?’”

As for the cast, all the OG members are making a comeback, including Thandiwe Newton, Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Frances O'Connor, Joanna Lumley, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and Joonas Suotamowill. Original Addams Family actor Christopher Lloyd will also be a part of the cast.

The plot of Wednesday has been kept under wraps for now, but we can be sure that it will involve more supernatural ventures at Nevermore while she enhances her psychic abilities. Ortega has teased the new season to be much darker and bolder, making it all the more exciting.
