Who is Callum in The Dragon Prince? Exploring his character's strengths and personality
In The Dragon Prince, Callum is the Son of Queen Sarai, who King Harrow adopted after his mother married him, making their son Ezran Callum's older half-brother and the prince of Katolis.
Callum is an awkward and shy teen who doesn't think he is fit to be a prince as he does not possess any abilities like sword-fighting, politics, and military combat, all necessary to be a prince. However, as the seasons passed, he developed abilities like empathy and kindness towards his friends and partner Rayla.
Although he does not know how to pick up a sword, he has great strength and presence of mind and has often helped his friends in difficult situations.
Feeling dejected that he is not fit to be a prince, he discovers Claudia's Sky Primal Stone, which helps him wield magic. This newfound power imbues a sense of confidence in the young mage, which is soon taken away when the stone is destroyed.
But he later discovers the Sky arcanum and becomes the first human to cast spells without a conduit.
After forming a connection to the Ocean arcanum, he is currently the wielder of two Primal Sources at once- giving him the power to perform Sky and Ocean magic.
What does The Dragon Prince Season 7 ending suggest for Callum's future?
Going on a quest with his girlfriend Rayla in Season 6, he discovers that the Nova blade cannot destroy Aaravos' mortal vessel because he is a star who will be sent back to heaven and only given a temporary death.
Celestial Elves prophecized and envisioned that Callum's soul is in danger because of his use of black magic, and he can fall prey to darkness in the future, with Rayla as his only guiding light.
While Callum decides not to indulge in Black magic again and keep Rayla by his side, this seems inevitable. After learning that Tina is dead and there is no way to create Aaravos' pearl prison again, Callum is forced to do black magic once again in The Dragon Prince Season 7.
He decides to capture Aravos in the cursed coin by casting a spell and ordering Runaan to kill him after Aaravos is captured so that Callum's soul is saved. But before he could cast a spell, Avizandum bit Aaravos, and he was sent back to heaven with a temporary death caused by the Archdragon's bite.
While Callum was unable to complete his spell, he did give in and used black magic, and a part of his soul was corrupted, evident from the white streak in his hair. The season ends with a dire future for Callum, who could fall prey to Aaravos' manipulations and join him once he is back after seven years.
But as a ray of light, Callum also discovers the Magical Cube, the key to Aaravos. While the nature of the cube is unknown, it might be the element that could permanently destroy Aaravos.
