Daredevil: Born Again continues to present the saga of the blind attorney-turned-masked vigilante Matt Murdock and has aired its latest episode on March 26, 2025 on Disney+. While Murdock has to fight several adversaries on Daredevil: Born Again, the recently revealed antagonist named Muse ranks high in the list of his rivals. Muse is known for his vicious and almost natural disposition to do evil, standing out from other rivals, particularly for being a ruthless and sadistic threat to the said Marvel anti-hero.
However, hardcore comic enthusiasts have already begun to notice differences in Muse's portrayal on Daredevil: Born Again. The character appears to have diminished while deviating from the traditional depiction of Muse in certain key aspects, particularly in terms of his signature traits.
Here's everything that we know.
Daredevil: Born Again - Differences between Muse on the show and in the comics
Daredevil: Born Again maintains a street-level narrative that is deeply rooted in reality. The show revolves around Matt Murdock, a blind attorney who fights against criminals using his exceptionally heightened senses.
Muse, on the other hand, is a vicious new foe he encounters in the latest episode. He is a psychopath and a killer who doesn't shy away from violence to fulfill his psychopathic impulses. Muse is introduced in the sixth episode of the show, titled Excessive Force, with a disturbing scene at a train station where he is seen drawing blood from the veins of an innocent victim.
However, despite this sinister debut, the Disney+ version of the villain appears to be significantly toned down compared to his comic book counterpart. In the latter, Muse possesses superhuman strength, immense speed, and the ability to render himself imperceptible — traits seemingly absent from the show's adaptation.
Regardless, this version of Muse does seem to share the same character arc with the comics counterpart. His strange obsession with his victims' blood and the macabre murals he leaves across the city mirror his infamous comic book persona.. It is likely that the showrunners opted to scale down his superhuman powers on Daredevil: Born Again to ensure he doesn't overshadow Matt Murdock, who doesn't have any superhuman powers himself.
Executive Producer speaks about Muse
In a recent interview with TVLine, Dario Scardapane, the executive producer and showrunner of series, shed light on the introduction and the character arc of Muse:
"I call Muse a stressor in this story, in that in the battle between Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Muse causes a ripple effect. He causes trouble for Fisk. He causes trouble for Matt Murdock.”
This was somewhat reiterated by executive producer Sana Amanat, who noted:
"He is an important stressor for the conflict of Fisk and Matt Murdock."
Scardapane added further:
"The Muse run, for lack of a better word, in this story has pretty shocking consequences. And those consequences don’t end. We’re carrying them into Season 2, is the best way I can put it."
It is worth noting, however, that the comics specify that Muse emerged during the reign of Kingpin, with the latter using him to solidify his own control over the city by bringing into effect his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. This key plot remains intact and unchanged on the Disney+ adaptation, thus maintaining the basic integrity of the character.
