How did Mr. Martin die in School Spirits? Character's fate, explored

School Spirits is back with its second season, and much to the excitement of the fans, it has been exploring the Mr. Martin storyline well. Played by Josh Zuckerman, Mr. Martin is the Split River High Afterlife Support Group’s leader as he works as a ghost therapist.

It was Mr. Martin who welcomed Maddie to the group in season 1 after her apparent death. However, it became increasingly clear that Mr. Martin knew something about Maddie’s death that he was not coming clean with.

It was already known that Mr. Martin had died in the 1950s in a fire accident. However, School Spirits Season 2 finally brings in the character of Janet, who also died in that fire and is seen to have taken possession of Maddie’s body, leading everyone to believe Maddie has died.

Mr. Martin died in a fire in the 1950s in School Spirits

Mr. Martin's death has been a key plot point in School Spirits right from the first season. While it was made clear quite early in the series that Mr. Martin had died in a fire that spread in the chemistry lab, mystery seemed to be piling up regarding the origin and the cause of the fire.

Toward the end of season 1, it was revealed that the fire that killed Mr. Martin was perhaps started because of his own negligence. Moreover, that same fire killed Janet, a girl whose ghost is inhabiting Maddie’s body in the present timeline.

Charley was the first one to discover this from a newspaper clipping that mentioned the fire and also the fact that Janet and Mr. Martin had died together in it. If he did in fact cause the fire and Janet passed away in it, Mr. Martin would be partially responsible for Janet’s death.

Moreover, Janet’s parents claim that the fire was caused by Mr. Martin further validates this point. As it is already clear, Janet and Mr. Martin do have some sort of a connection, and as Peyton List mentioned,

“And Mr. Martin and Janet, they're very intimate, so it's everyone wants to know [why]. It's a big clue that leads to everything else.”

Zuckerman himself had talked about the relationship between Mr. Martin and Janet, saying,

“They were the only two people at this school for a decade. Whether it’s romantic or not, there’s a deep connection there.”

Season 2 has been dealing with the Mr. Martin and Janet storyline, and it would be interesting to see what exactly happened between these two that led to Janet not listening to him and running away after inhabiting Maddie’s body.

American actor Josh Zuckerman plays the role of Mr. Martin in School Spirits. His most famous projects include Sex Drive and the sci-fi show Kyle XY. He has also starred in other well-known projects, including Desperate Housewives, Significant Mother, etc.

Zuckerman has also had minor and recurring roles in several films and shows, including The View from the Swing, The Hottest State, Ivan's House, Once and Again, The West Wing, NYPD Blue, etc.
