CBS's police procedural drama Blue Bloods ended with Season 14 on December 13, 2024, and fans were sad to bid goodbye to their favorite show.

The show, which began in 2010, follows the Reagan family that has a long history of serving the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The family patriarch Frank Reagan and his son Danny topline the current generation on the show. Frank is the Commissioner of Police.

While the show is a police procedural, it is also a family drama that has navigated the dynamics of the Reagan family as they have handled loss and celebrated triumphs over 14 seasons.

The strength of the show lies in the unity of the Reagans and the family values they portray, highlighted by the iconic dinner table scenes. It was no surprise that CBS recorded all-time high ratings for the Blue Bloods finale, with fans tuning in to bid farewell to the family.

The finale was episode number 293 overall, and 18th of the season. More on the record-breaking viewership of the final episode, titled End of Tour:

Blue Bloods finale recorded a season-high viewership

According to VideoAmp data, the Blue Bloods finale saw a season-high viewership, with 6.68 million live+same day viewers, with fans everywhere tuning in at 10 pm ET on CBS to catch the finale of the police procedural show.

The ratings for the finale surpass the Season 14 premiere record, when 5.67 million viewers watched in February 2024.

While Paramount Global is in talks with Nielsen Data to renew its contract, the viewership results for the finale in the Friday time slot was 5.86 million according to Nielsen, says a report in Variety.

Actor Tom Selleck, who plays Frank Reagan, expressed his views about the all-time high Friday ratings in an interview with Variety,

“Imagine if you told CBS when we started in 2010, ‘Here’s a show you can program on your worst time slot. You don’t have to promote it, and it’ll win the night for 15 years.’ That’s pretty neat!”

The actor was sad seeing the show come to an end, adding that the decision was not his to make and everything was for good.

How did Blue Bloods end? The show finale explored

The writers of the show have created a gripping finale with every character getting a satisfying ending. Following the violence unleashed on New York City, Mayor Chase gives full authority to Frank and to stop the mayhem.

The action quotient seamlessly blends with emotional drama as Eddie and Jamie share the good news with the family that they are expecting a child. This ensures the Reagan family legacy will continue. Elsewhere in the Blue Bloods finale, Danny finally got a second chance with Officer Beaz, and the story ends with the hint that the two might head for a possible romance.

After being alone since Season 8 following Linda's death, it was good seeing Danny get the ending he deserves.

The episode ends with a shot of the Reagans at the dinner table after the tearjerking sequence of Badillo's funeral.

The finale all the Reagan family values, with Joe's acceptance of his new family. Blue Bloods has ended on a note that will forever stay in the minds of fans.
