Warning: This article contains significant spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2, viewer discretion is advised
House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 7, brought a downward spiral for The Greens. Among the three dragons that The Greens boasted of earlier, all pressure lies on Vhagar, the largest and strongest of all dragons. The count of dragons for The Greens is now 4 after 7th episode mentioned a new dragon named Tessarion.
Tessarion, the young dragon, is affiliated to Prince Daeron Targaryen, the younger sibling of Aemond and Aegon. Tessarion has not yet appeared on the show, but he is anticipated to appear soon.
How many Dragons are fit for war under Greens after S2, Episode 7?
Dragons of Team Green
Even while the Greens have significant influence over King's Landing and the Iron Throne, their dragon power is noticeably low. Armond's Vhagar is an invaluable asset for the Green army. However, she is not enough to wage war against the Black's suit of seven active dragons.
Aemond accidentally injured Sunfyre, Aegon's dragon, at the Battle of Rook's Rest, which causes him to be sidelined for the remainder of the conflict.
However, in Episode 6, Alicent asks about Daeron Targaryen, who is a ward of the Hightower in Oldtown and has not yet appeared in House of the Dragon. In Episode 7, the Small Council announce that Tessarion (Daeron's dragon) can be expected to join the fight soon. Viewers are also given a brief glimpse of Tessarion, in the season finale preview.
This new addition increased the Greens' number of dragons to four, but it is yet to be seen how significant Tessarion would prove to be in the Dance of the Dragons.
In short, Vhagar and Dreamfyre are the notable dragons that the Greens have who are ready to go to battle, compared to the seven dragons that the Blacks now have. Moreover, Helaena avoids riding Dreamfyre, even though she is associated with the dragon.
Due to terrible injuries sustained at Rook's Rest, Sunfyre will require a significant amount of time to rehabilitate. This would effectively put Aegon and him on the bench for now, which makes Vhagar the only significant dragon in Green's suit that we know of.
How many dragons does the Black army have?
Dragons of Team Black
The Blacks already had a greater number of dragons than the Greens before Episode 7, even though majority of their dragons were not yet seasoned. Rhaenyra rides Syrax, Jacaerys rides Vermax, and Baela rides Moondancer; each of these dragons is nimble, but they do not have the size or the expertise in warfare to compete with Aemond Targaryen's powerful Vhagar.
This particular gap revealed the need for more riders. After the first season, Aemond Targaryen and his dragon Vhagar were responsible for the death of Arrax, who Lucerys Velaryon was riding. Moreover, Meleys, who Rhaenys Targaryen rode, was another dragon who was lost in the battle.
Even though Meleys was one of the fastest dragons, he was defeated by Vhagar in a brutal battle, which exemplifies the serious danger that Green's dragon poses.
Where to watch House of the Dragon season 2 finale?
Amid these losses, there are still dragons that have not been claimed, which have the potential to strengthen Team Black's case. Without riders, Grey Ghost, Cannibal, and Sheepstealer are still absent. These wild dragons are feared by all and it is unclear if they will join the fight.
The season two finale of House of the Dragon will be available on HBO in the United States and Sky and NOW in the United Kingdom. Recently, HBO released a promo for the finale. It is to be seen how many unclaimed dragons will be claimed this season and if Green will manage to outdo Blacks in the finale episode.
House of the Dragon Season 2's climax will broadcast on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 9 PM ET. Comprising one hour and thirteen minutes, this episode will be the longest one in the series.
