James Patterson's hit novel series, Alex Cross, was adapted as a series for Amazon Prime Video.

Patterson's novel series began in 1993 and has proved best-selling with each passing story. It follows the story of Alex, an African-American Metropolitan Police Department detective who uses his knowledge to understand the psyches of killers and victims to solve cases.

In addition to Prime Video's latest Cross series, there are three other film adaptations of Patterson's novels.

The new series is already a hit on Amazon Prime, surpassing all previous records on the platform. More about James Patterson's Alex Cross in our story.

The first adaptation was his 1995 novel Kiss The Girls, which was made into a movie in 1997. Morgan Freeman played the titular character, Alex Cross. The film was directed by Gary Fleder and also starred Ashley Judd and Cary Elwes.

Following the success of this adaptation, Freeman reprised his role as Cross in the 2001 film Along Came a Spider, which was based on Patterson's 1993 novel. It also starred Jay O. Sanders as Kyle Craig.

While Freeman did not reprise his role as Cross in further films, the franchise got a reboot in 2012. Tyler Perry played the titular character, and it was based on Patterson's 2006 novel. It also featured Matthew Fox as the villain Picasso.

While fans loved Freeman's take on Cross' character, the 2012 film was a box-office bomb, which resulted in no further sequels for the film.

After almost a decade, Aldis Hodge was chosen to reboot the role of Cross for the Prime series, and it enjoyed global success, and a second season is already in the works.

Everything to know about James Patterson's Alex Cross series' latest Amazon Prime Adaptation

The new Cross adaptation on Amazon Prime Video proved to be a big hit for the streaming platform, garnering 40 million viewers globally in the first 20 days.

It is now the sixth-most-watched season on the platform and the third-most-watched series premiere of the year, only behind Fallout and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Riding on this wave of success, the show was announced for a Season 2 even before it premiered the first season.

Alex Cross's newest adaptation stars Aldis Hodge, who is also a producer for the show, plays the titular character, who is “uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers.”

Other cast members for Cross are Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tai and Samantha Walkes.

In an interview with The Wrap, showrunner Ben Watkins discussed about the show's future,

“Getting a Season 2 pick-up before our first season even drops is a huge testament and vote of confidence in the amazing work that our crew, cast, directors, writers and production team have delivered thus far.”

He added,

“It’s also a direct result of the unwavering support bestowed upon us by Prime Video and our producing partners at Paramount TV Studios, Skydance and James Patterson Entertainment,”
