Outlander is a time-traveling fantasy drama. With a focus on romance, the series brings together an 18th-century Scottish Highlander and a World War II nurse. Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe), are separated by a timeline of 20 years.
The two are unsure if they will ever see each other again and get tangled with another character Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson).
While the two remain apart, Jamie marries another woman Laoghaire MacKenzie. This character continues to play an important role in Jamie and Claire's story in season 6.
Since season 1, Claire and Jamie's lives have been intertwined with Laoghaire's. She becomes jealous when she sees Jamie kissing Laoghaire immediately after Claire travels through the stones.
Before Claire can confess her feelings and marry Jamie. Laoghaire accuses Claire of being a witch, and it is almost the end for Claire when Laoghaire's accusations lead to a trial against Claire.

How does Jamie and Laoghaire’s relationship in Outlander begin?
Laoghaire first appears in season 1 of Outlander when her father requests that she be publicly caned at Leoch Castle. The punishment is to humiliate young people who misbehave rather than to cause any real harm.
However, having been caned in the past Jamie understands the burden of bearing the public shame and decides to accept the canning instead of Laoghaire.
Though he saves Laoghaire, this leads her to develop an infatuation towards him. Later Laoghaire asks Claire to help her make a love potion for Jamie, and Claire nonchalantly pretends to make it. But when Claire marries Jamie to save herself from Jonathan Randall, Laoghaire feels it is an attack on her.
Clair and Jamie now find themselves in a difficult situation and begin to fall in love. However, Laoghaire disapproves of their love and marriage. She believes that Jamie is now under Claire's spell and manipulates events so that Claire is arrested and soon executed for being a witch.
However, she manages to escape and leaves Leoch with Jamie.
