How did Kingpin become the Mayor of New York? Speculations about Daredevil: Born Again

In the post-credit scene in Echo, Kingpin is seen only thinking about being the mayor of the city, while the recent Daredevil: Born Again trailer confirms that he is the mayor now. Therefore, Marvel has skipped the entire story of "How". This becomes a major question acknowledging the criminal cases against Kingpins that led to his arrest twice. He made it to the headlines and hence, is popular in NYC. Moreover, his name also came forward for bribing and blackmailing law enforcement agencies.

Kingpin as a mayor might be more dangerous than before with the entire city and power in his pocket. Even before, Kingpin was someone whose story people used, to climb the stairs of success.

Kingpin is shown as a man of influence in the criminal underground world. But, in Hawkeye, he loses control of his criminal empire with Maya Lopez shooting him in the eye.
