"I Thought You'd Never Shut Up", the final episode of Invincible Season 3 mostly revolved around the brutal battle between the Invincible and the new villain of the series, Conquest, voiced by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Mark, Oliver, and Atom Eve all suffer devastating losses in this episode. However, Invincible manages to finally beat Conquest, whom the former believes is dead.

But one of the most important things about the third season's finale is the closing moments of the episode which sets up the events of the fourth season. One of these moments is the mid-credits scene featuring the return of a character not seen since Invincible Season 1. In that scene, we see the return of the demon Damien Darkblood voiced again by Clancy Brown.

"With the world still reeling, a dangerous stranger arrives - testing Mark to his limits and beyond."

What happens in the mid-credit scene of Invincible Season 3?

Who is Damien Darkblood you ask? He was one of the characters introduced early in the first season as a detective investigating the death of the Guardians of the Globe heroes on Cecil's behalf. Unlike the comic's version, the Darkblood introduced in the show is more serious and competent and figures out that Nolan is responsible for the death of the Guardians. Cecil also realizes the same.

But Cecil wants to figure out Nolan's motives for killing the Guardians and the way to stop the latter, while Darkblood wants to expose Omni-Man as the murderer. Thus, Cecil exiles Darkblood to hell to stop the demonic detective from outing Nolan for now. Now, the Invincible Season 3 finale seems to be suggesting that there's more to Darkblood than we were initially led to believe.

In the mid-credit scene of Invincible Season 3, Damien Darkblood summons a demon (unclear if he is Satan or not) voiced by horror movie icon Bruce Campbell. Darkbood has a suggestion for the demon to become the ruler of hell by using the body of a Viltrumite being as a vessel. It is unclear if Darkblood is hinting at Mark or Nolan.

Darkblood describes the Viltrumite being as having a "blackened heart". This comment may have you believe that Damien is referring to Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man, who was still regarded as a hero by the rest of the world when the former was exiled to hell. Being in hell would probably mean that Damien may not know that the rest of the world is aware of Omni-Man's intentions to weaken the planet.

However, the recent Variety interview with Invincible creator and comic book writer Robert Kirkman suggests something else. Kirkman in this interview, hinted at a plotline he almost included but didn't while writing the comics. He said:

"There’s a storyline from the comic that I never got around to doing. Every superhero story has some chapter where they go to hell and they fight the devil. It happens in DC and Marvel comics. It’s a big deal. I never got around to doing anything like that in “Invincible.” I kept getting sidetracked and there was never a good time. So it’s entirely possible that we may be doing something like that in the show, and that scene at the end of that episode is setting that up."

This quote seemingly suggests that Mark, at one point in time in the comics, fought the devil himself. This abandoned storyline has fans excited, as this is something new for the show.
