ABC's latest crime drama show, High Potential Season 1, wrapped with an epic finale episode on February 11, 2025. Led by a strong cast comprising Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjanta, Javicia Leslie, and Deniz Akdeniz, the show follows the story of Morgan, a single mother of three children with an IQ of 160, who is hired to assist with the LAPD.
The show is already renewed for season 2, and High Potential Season 1 finale leaves enough doors open for a sophomore season.
Since the killer in Morgan's latest case has not been captured yet, it would be one of the major plot points for season 2. In addition, season 2 will also explore Morgan's first husband's disappearance, who is revealed to be alive in the season 1 finale.
More on High Potential Season 1 in our story.
The kidnapper has his eyes on Morgan in the High Potential Season 1 final
While Morgan and the LAPD team were able to solve all the cases featured in different episodes of High Potential Season 1, the finale featured the first unsolved case, which set the stage for season 2.
The Major Crimes Unit entertained the kidnapper/serial killer throughout his childish games in the finale episode and discovered that the man they had been chasing was not their suspect.
Throughout episode 13, the team thought that their suspect was David, a mentally disturbed man who was after the people he met through his grief group. It was earlier revealed that Oz was also a part of the group after his father's death, which directly put his life in threat. But Daphne and Adam saved him in the finale.
In the final moments, it is revealed that David is in a rehab facility and someone is using his identity to target and kill. While Morgan is unaware of this, the killer has his eyes set on her when he appears out of nowhere in front of her house while she is loading groceries.
She finds a pack of cards with the message, “We shall play again. Me and you.” hinting that Morgan is also now a target, directly setting her up in threat in High Potential Season 2.
High Potential Season 2 might explore Roman's past. What will become of Morgan and Adam's budding relationship?
The most shocking revelation made in High Potential Season 1 was about Morgan's first husband, Roman, who had disappeared, and she did not know his whereabouts.
After Adam and Ronnie find out that Roman is alive and he is an undercover FBI agent, they tell Morgan, setting the stage for another story arc for season 2. Since it is established now that Roman is alive, the sophomore season will likely explore his past life and where he was from all these years.
Additionally, Roman being alive will also affect Morgan and Adam's budding relationship. While the show teased a potential romance between the two, it was Tom with whom Morgan had a small fling.
But the finale teased that Adam might have fallen for Morgan as he was too stunned to speak after seeing her in a beautiful gown at the police gala. The two also share a sweet moment, where they dance but are interrupted by Tom.
With Tom and Adam both pining after Morgan, Roman's return is bound to add complexity to Morgan's love life, which will be explored in Season 2.
