Silo ended nearly a year ago on a major cliffhanger leaving fans galore curious about the future of the show. Season 1 ended with Juliette Nichols (played by Rebecca Ferguson) taking on the responsibility of becoming a cleaner despite the risk of sure death outside the haven.

At the end of Season 1, Episode 10, Juliette dresses up as a cleaner, is sworn in by Bernard Holland (played by Tim Robbins) to clean, and is asked for her last words. She says, “I’m not afraid…”

After she’s escorted to the door, Juliette takes her first step outside and sees the barren land for the first time, like previous cleaners. The visuals on her helmet show her flourishing earth instead of a dystopian world that she and others in her community are aware of.

Juliette knew authorities of the Silo were hiding the truth about the world’s reality and wanted to expose them for it. When it was her turn to do the customary clean-the-glass-with-a-cloth, she nonchalantly dropped the cloth, causing an eruption of murmurs amid observers.

While Sims pondered over her fate, Holland claimed her action didn’t matter since she was doomed either way. However, to both their surprise - Juliette didn’t die before reaching the tree: She survived, and the good heat tape recommended by Martha saved her.

How did the tape save Juliette’s life in Season 1 of Silo?

After Juliette realizes the possibility of Silo’s authorities intentionally using mediocre tape to seal the cleaner’s suits, she teams up with both Walker and her ex-wife Carla to concoct the good tape to save her life. To recall, Juliette was banished from Silo for her act of stealing earlier on in the episodes.

After getting a hold of the newly designed heat tape resembling scotch tape, she goes ahead with the transformation to clean. After dripping her cloth, Holland expected Juliette to drop dead before reaching the tree since the faulty tape usually renders most dead due to it letting in toxic air.

The good tape saved Juliette’s life by blocking out the toxic air from entering her suit in Silo Season 1. After noticing she was safe and sound, Juliette, still under the illusion of the world being perfect, placed a badge on a rock. However, the rock glitches at that time, causing her to wake up to reality. She quickly learns that this was how it was designed to be.

Furthermore, she receives a rude awakening when the illusion breaks - instead of one Silo, there were many! And all cleaners were prevented from revealing the truth to the other inhabitants. While the tape indeed enabled Juliette to live, it was indirectly responsible for everything she saw after learning the truth. While the fate of the cleaners remains uncertain, change is inevitable in the upcoming season.
