Daredevil: Born Again serves as a revival of Netflix’s Daredevil and continues the story of the blind lawyer turned vigilante, Matt Murdock. The original show aired three seasons between 2015 and 2018 and was a hit among the audience.
Ever since the predecessor series was canceled, fans had been demanding Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil, which is now finally becoming a reality with the Disney+ series. Though the two shows are based on the same characters, they do have their fair share of differences.
Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has opened up about how the two shows vary in their treatment and tone. Scardapane said the new show would be more action-oriented and would have a crime story-like feel.
Daredevil: Born Again showrunner explains how the Disney+ series is different from its Netflix predecessor
Dario Scardapane talked about the contrast between Daredevil: Born Again and Daredevil in an interview with SFX magazine. The showrunner said the new series will feature more fun moments between the characters as they get into action instead of spending time on trivial conversations:
“There is more fun in the moments with these characters and a lot less navel-gazing than before. The earlier show, at its best, was fantastic. At its worst, it was two characters in a room talking about what a hero is.”
“I felt that had been done. I'm not taking swipes. I just didn't want to hear characters grousing about their lot in life. I wanted to see them doing things.”
Scardapane also served as a writer and executive producer on Netflix’s The Punisher, which was set in the same universe as Daredevil. Comparing Daredevil: Born Again with his earlier work, Scardapane said the upcoming show is going to be fast-paced with several action scenes:
“One of our edicts [on The Punisher] was longer scenes. You had these long five-page scenes of characters hashing it out in order to make space between these massive action sequences. The way stuff has evolved since then, we're able to do big action sequences at a lot more pace.”
Talking about the tone of the show, Scardapane revealed Born Again will be much darker than Daredevil and will feel like a New York crime story series, similar to shows like The Sopranos and King Of New York. He concluded by saying:
“It has a pace and a scope that, for a lot of reasons, Netflix wasn't able to do. They were very dark, cinematically, not necessarily story-wise, although there were some dark elements. We're much darker.”
Meanwhile, the two shows also have some similarities. Actors Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Karen Page, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal, Ayelet Zurer, and Wilson Bethel are all reprising their roles from the original series. At the same time, Daredevil: Born Again will act as a continuation of Daredevil.
Daredevil: Born Again will premiere in March 2025
After much anticipation, Daredevil: Born Again will hit the screens on March 4, 2025, seven years after the cancelation of the predecessor series. The show follows Matt Murdock, who continues his fight against crime. Meanwhile, former crime boss Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin is eyeing to become the Mayor of NYC.
As the two encounter each other again, their pasts and presents clash, leading to a series of thrilling events. Marvel Entertainment has already launched the official trailer for the nine-episode first season, which has been received well by the fans. Meanwhile, a second season is already in the works.
