Amazon Prime Video’s new biblical drama, House of David, premiered on February 27, 2025, and has released four episodes so far. Created by Jon Erwin, the show follows the story of David and his rise from a shepherd to one of the most important biblical figures.
As the story is taken from the Bible, many people are curious to find out if the show is biblically accurate. House of David follows the biblical story of David, but it also incorporates some creative liberties to enhance the storytelling.
Set in 1000 BC Israel, it tells the story of David becoming the second King of Israel and his epic fight with Goliath.

Is David and King Saul’s story biblically accurate? Details explored
David’s (Micahel Iskander) story, for the most part, is biblically accurate. His being an outcast in the family and a musician is taken from the Bible. However, the fact about David’s mother being a Gentile is not revealed in the Bible, but it does connect the other biblically accurate facts as Ruth and Rahab, David’s great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, were Gentiles.
David being disliked by his father, Jesse ( Louis Ferreira), is biblically accurate as he does not present him in front of the prophet Samuel with his other sons. However, another detail that is not biblically accurate is David being fearful. According to the Bible, David was confident and believed in God.
Other than David, another important character, King Saul (Ali Suliman) of Israel, was also an important figure in Israel’s history.
The portrayal of King Saul has been biblically accurate till now. His disobeying God’s command and leaving King Agag alive is what causes him to be rejected by God.
His nightmares and delusions shown in the House of David, after disobeying God in his arrogance, are taken from 1 Samuel in the Bible.

Biblical accuracy of other facts in House of David
Other than David and Saul, the prophet Samuel (Samuel Lang) is also one of the most biblically accurate characters in the show. He is one of the major characters in the show and has encountered the change Israel went through when it changed from a Kritarchy, meaning the rule by judges, to a monarchy.
Other than Saul, Samuel also appointed David as the next King of Israel. In episode 3, the scene where he installs David as King is taken from 1 Samuel 16.
Another important character, Jonathan (Ethan Kai), son of King Saul, is also depicted according to what is written in the Bible. He is described as a loyal son and will be a major character in David’s life.
The other characters, such as Saul’s wife, Queen Ahinoam (Ayelet Zurer), play a significant role in the series, but her presence in the Bible is limited to a few references.
Therefore, House of David blends direct biblical references and expands the events to enhance the storytelling and character arcs.
