How to apply for Jeopardy?: Application process, virtual tests, and more explored

Fans looking to participate in the iconic game show need to follow a particular process, and criteria, and go through several tests. They have come to the right place, as we have all the necessary information.

First of all, players must be 18 years of age and must be residents of either the United States or Canada. Also, players need to create their "MyJeopardy!" account on the game show's official website.

After fulfilling the "Registration Form," players will have to take the "Anytime Test."

It is simply a quit test that tests how well-informed the player is with various ranges of topics. As the game show's official site mentions, it would require 15 minutes to answer the 50 questions if given each answer under a 15-second time limit.

To have better odds at the results, players can also go through a "Practice Session" offered by the game show's website. However, for the actual Anytime Test, there is a limit, i.e., once every 12 months.

Moreover, the show won't be disclosing any of the test scores. Hence, if any player doesn't hear back from the game show, they might want to re-apply the next year.

Those who have passed the Anytime Test and have been selected to advance further on the trivia will be notified via email. Selected players will receive their invitation within a year.

The next step would be the audition process, which is carried out in two parts via video conference auditions.

  • First part: 50 questions (similar to Anytime Test) via a video call
  • Second part: Virtual test where players are split into groups of three and asked questions related to trivia questions.

Those who crack the first part will be called back within a year for the next stage.

The players who pass the Anytime Test, followed by the first and second part tests of the auditions, will have their names added to the Jeopardy! contestants' pool. The qualified names will stay in the pool for about a year.

According to Jeopardy's director of communications, Alison Shapiro,

"Once a potential contestant has completed both rounds of the audition, they are made aware that they are in the contestant pool and could be contacted to appear on the show any time in the following 24 months."

As shared by the DoC in her September 13, 2024, interview with People, selected contestants are notified about their selection at least a month before the filming date. Fans should note that not all the players who have been in the pool will be called. As Alison shared,

"If those 24 months go by without a call, they can test again."

Coming to the stats, each year, the show looks forward to filling a "few hundred" players, for whom around 1,27,000 potential players, on average, apply for the Anytime Test each year.
