Will Trent Season 3 puts the spotlight on Erika Christensen's Angie Polaski in a way we never saw coming. Angie's track has usually revolved around her complicated history with Will, but the show has now given her a break and lets her shine on her own. As we head into the 2025 schedule, Angie’s story in the ABC cop show becomes independent and more complex.

Episode 3, titled Find a New Pond, gives Angie a new start after her arrest in the second season of Will Trent. She is now making waves with her career as a homicide detective in the Atlanta Police Department (APD) without Will hanging around all the time. This is actually part of the show’s plan to make every character more meaningful.

Even though it’s nice to see her back with the APD gang, the way she’s taking charge of her cases and working independently is a whole new ballgame. Will Trent fans can’t wait to see what she does next!

Angie overcame her challenges on Will Trent

Angie gets her job back at the APD after all the drama in Season 2, and this isn't just about her job but also about who she is as a person. The episode kicks off with her feeling unsure after her talk to the big bosses. Then, she discovers a crime scene with a swan holding a chopped-off finger. This was her first solo gig since coming back, without Will holding her hand through it, and she nailed it.

Angie's significance in Will Trent isn't just about her lovey-dovey moments with Will anymore. It's about her showing everyone that she's got the chops for the job. Erika Christensen, the actress who plays Angie, brings alive the character by showing us a side of her we didn't know — a little broken, but tough and determined.

The show threw us a curveball with the bad guy's identity. The reveal, coming after edge-of-the-seat suspense, was a surprise. For Angie, it was a big moment because it showed she could handle things on her own.

By the end, when she teams up with Michael Ormewood to wrap up the case, Will Trent sets her up for a more important role in the future. Angie is not a sidekick anymore, she's a player. The episode laid the groundwork for her to grow and take on bigger roles in the series.

Will and Angie go their separate paths

In Season 3, the show splits Will Trent and Angie Polaski's stories. They've always been tied together, and at times deemed love interests, but now they're going their separate ways. Will starts to get closer to the tough lawyer Marion Alba, played by Gina Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, Angie's love life heats up with Dr. Seth McDale, played by Scott Foley, and he shows up in the eighth episode. Will's opening up more with Nico shows he's ready to move on, even as Angie is still dealing with their past together.

The best part is, by giving Angie her own space in the storyline, the show becomes more than just about who's dating whom. We get to see the characters grow as people, not just in their love lives but also in their careers and everything else.

Watch Will Trent every Tuesday at 8 pm on ABC and then on Hulu.
