House Of The Dragons got a new update. During a fan panel at MegaCon, Smith and Frankel gave fans a sneak peek into what’s coming next. They confirmed that they’ve read multiple scripts for the new season, sparking even more excitement among viewers. This means filming for the third season is well underway.
With scripts for episodes four through six already in hand, the cast seems to be moving quickly. This hints that production is on schedule and that we’re one step closer to returning to Westeros.
Filming progress confirmed
Back in December, reports hinted that filming would begin in January 2025. Now, we know it has officially started and is moving smoothly.
With a few episodes already in the bag, production is progressing at a steady pace. It looks like the House Targaryen’s drama is heating up behind the scenes!
A major casting announcement also dropped recently, James Norton will be joining Season 3 as Ormund Hightower. For those familiar with the books, Ormund is a key figure in Targaryen history.
Ormund Hightower’s addition likely means we’ll see more political scheming and power struggles in King’s Landing.
Showrunner Ryan Condal shared some insight into the filming schedule during a podcast appearance. He revealed that production would run from January through the fall of 2025.
Since we’re already into February, it seems the timeline is holding steady. Fans can expect more concrete details as production continues.
House of the Dragon has been renewed for a fourth and final season. This last season will wrap up the story of “The Dance of the Dragons,” a bloody civil war that defined the Targaryen dynasty.
The show’s creators want to make sure the series ends on a high note, giving closure to the centuries-long feud that shaped Westeros’ history.
Star Emma D’Arcy (Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen) has already expressed excitement about returning to set. D’Arcy hinted that filming would begin early in 2025, matching Condal’s timeline. D’Arcy’s portrayal of Rhaenyra has earned critical acclaim, and fans are eager to see what’s next for the Targaryen queen.
Season 2 attracted 25 million viewers, a slight drop from Season 1’s 29 million. However, the show remains one of HBO’s top performers. Emma D’Arcy received another Golden Globe nomination, and the show earned multiple SAG and Saturn Award nominations for Season 2.
While Martin and some fans had minor complaints about Season 2, the overall reception was positive. The action and storytelling continued to impress. Many viewers praised the cast’s performances and the show’s visual effects, though some wanted a faster pace.
Fans of George R.R. Martin’s world can also look forward to “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” This new prequel series will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.
Peter Claffey has been cast as Ser Duncan, and the show is expected to premiere later this year.
If you’re behind on House of the Dragon, you can catch up on all past episodes on Max (formerly HBO Max).
With filming underway and exciting new additions to the cast, House of the Dragon Season 3 is shaping up to be another thrilling chapter in the Targaryen saga. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the premiere!
