David and Princess Mychal’s relationship

The Episode opens with David singing as Mychal listens to him. While teaching David to read, Mychal shares the secret that she does not wish to live the life of a princess. When David was about to share his secret with her, Queen Ahinoam stopped David and told him that he was in Gibeah only to comfort the king and should not involve himself in anything other than that.

While talking to Eliab, who had been investigating attacks on border towns, David shared that Reuben had a dream about his town being attacked by giants.

King Saul and Queen Ahinoam plan to arrange a marriage between Mychal and one of Adriel’s sons. The news upsets David greatly. While Adriel’s sons all try to get Mychal’s attention, his youngest son Jordan takes interest in Mirab. Abner tells Joab that David has been paying close attention to Mychal.

David wants to tell Mychal his secret that he has been anointed, but Eliab stops him and tells him she will not see it rationally.

After a rather tense meeting with Adriel, Saul is agitated. David comes to soothe him by playing music. When King Saul asks David which of Adriel’s sons will best suit Mychal, David volunteers himself instead. Saul laughs it off but comes to the realization that Mychal has no interest in any of Adriel’s sons. However, when he finds out that Mirab is interested in Adriel’s youngest son, Jordan, King Saul declares that Mirab will get married instead of Mychal, much to her relief.

Mirab’s happiness is, however, fleeting as Saul’s madness takes over and stops the marriage deal from going through.

Princess Mychal and David face challenges

Joab accuses David of getting close to the princess and treating the House of Saul with contempt. He tells him that if he ever meets Mychal in the future, Joab will kill him. David tells that he is there with a purpose and that Joab should learn about his own destiny as well. Perplexed by his response, Joab backs away.

Queen Ahinoam warns Mychal against getting involved with David, who, according to her, is just a shepherd. She tells her that Mychal should look at honoring the kingdom instead of being just a mere wife to someone.

King Saul’s condition worsens

King Saul has been exhibiting moments of paranoia. In the episode, Saul is uncertain about the upcoming negotiations with Adriel, the senior leader. He is suspicious of Adriel’s motives. But Queen Abinoam assures that it is important for the House of Saul to secure the marriage, as Adriel may be powerful but is also a fool.

After a strained meeting with Adriel, Saul tells Ahinoam that he thinks that the elder leader is an opportunist who cannot be trusted. But Ahinoam tells him that Saul can get Adriel to act according to his wishes through the union.

After it is announced that Jordan and Mirab will get married, Saul offers a copy of the Genesis scroll that contains Jacob’s blessing to Adriel. Saul’s mind is once again clouded by the apparition of Agag, who warns him that the Lion of Judah will steal his throne. Saul immediately accuses Adriel of wanting to steal his throne and rescinds the marriage agreement.

Ahinoam watches Saul in bed, repressed by the spirit. Besai insists on using sorcery to take the spirit away, despite Ahinoam’s hesitance. She says that she can take the ring for herself.

At night, King Saul wanders to the throne room, where he meets David. Though Saul asks David to sit on the throne to know how it feels, he declines the offer. But after Saul leaves, David sits on the throne. He was being secretly watched by Mychal.
