The penultimate episode of High Potential Season 1 kicks off with Anson Pierce traveling in his private jet along with his pet dog. As soon as the plane lands, foams start coming out of the tech entrepreneur's mouth, and he collapses.
It's revealed that Pierce has died of poison, and since he's behind the controversial app, there can be many who might have wished for his death. The LAPD and Morgan arrive with investigators Oz and Daphne, searching for clues on the plane.
They inform Karadec and Morgan about Pierce's background and the app he created. Since it's a murder of a high-profile personality, the FBI also joins the investigation.
Karadec isn't very happy to see his former LAPD partner, Agent Ronnie Oliver, as the two had conflicts in the past. The two clash over jurisdiction, while Morgan stays focused on the case.

While Karadec and Oliver cannot stop clashing over things, Morgan is busy trying to figure out who might have the strongest reason to kill Anson Pierce. She examines files at the FBI office and zeroes on a man named Kenneth Sutton.
He worked as a medical toxicologist and lost his daughters due to a deepfake video made using Pierce's app. His daughter committed suicide, and Sutton quit his career and vanished from public life.
Later in the High Potential episode, Morgan is closely watching surveillance photos. She sees Sutton regularly visiting her daughter's grave and placing fresh flowers on it. However, Morgan notices a key detail—Sutton wears gloves only while handling the flowers.
This leads Morgan to deduce that he laced the flowers with poison. But how did it reach Pierce? Continue reading below.

As High Potential Episode 12 continues, Morgan and Karadec visit Sutton at his house. Little did they know he would panic and fall from the staircase. This accident results in Sutton's death, and the case seems to have come to an end.
However, Morgan still feels suspicious and later finds out that Sutton has never left the apartment other than to visit his daughter's grave. Then how did the poison reach Pierce?
Thanks to Morgan, who remembered a quote about two flints in Sutton's daughter's book and Pierce's security guard, Parker had a flint on his keychain. It's revealed that Parker was dating Sutton's daughter and joined Pierce after her death.
He took the poisoned dog collar from the flowers at his ex-girlfriend's grave and placed it on Pierce's dog. When Anson Pierce was comforting his dog during the landing, he came into contact with the poison and ultimately died.
