Aimee Lou Wood is back in the spotlight with her impressive performance in The White Lotus season 3. The actress plays Chelsea, a young woman who is worried about the distant behavior of her older boyfriend.
Before the HBO series, Aimee Lou Wood had her breakthrough with Netflix’s Sex Education, playing the main role of Aimee Gibbs across all four seasons. However, amid the stardom, the actress struggled with anorexia and bulimia and eventually sought therapy to deal with her condition.
In a 2021 interview with Glamour magazine, Aimee Lou Wood revealed that working in Sex Education inspired her to take therapy. The process eventually helped her feel better:
“I think therapy can also be a bit of a weird thing because it's amazing, and I think it's so vital, and it's helped me in so many ways, but it also does uncover things that you probably would never usually because it's like a bloody excavation.”
The White Lotus Season 3 star Aimee Lou Wood was inspired to seek therapy due to Sex Education
In her interview, Aimee Lou Wood highlighted that she started going to therapy only after starring in Sex Education. In the show, a number of students overcome their issues with professional help, which inspired The White Lotus actress to implement the process in her real life too. She said:
“I think the only reason why I even started going to therapy in the first place was because of Sex Education because I saw how much therapy enhanced people's lives in that show, and how much people needed it. It really did just open something up in me that was definitely slammed shut.”
Speaking about how the therapy made her feel better over time, Lou Wood stated:
“I have changed immensely since doing Sex Education. I always put it down to therapy as to why I'm so much more vulnerable and honest with my feelings.”
The actress also pointed out that therapy can get difficult sometimes, but she was willing to brace through the challenge to reach her end goal. In a later interview in 2023, Lou Wood revealed she was still seeking help from a therapist to control her impulses.
In Sex Education, Lou Wood played Aimee, a sexually liberated girl who was assaulted in the second season and then had to enroll in therapy to overcome the trauma. Since the conclusion of the Netflix series in 2023, the actress has starred in shows like Alice & Jack, Daddy Issues, and Toxic Town.
She has also received praise for her portrayal of Chelsea in The White Lotus season 3. Chelsea is a free-spirited girl who arrives at a resort in Thailand with her older boyfriend, Rick Hatchett.
