Back after a long hiatus of three years, Hellbound Season 2 was as intense and thrilling, if not more, than the first season.

While season 1 mainly focused on Jung Jin-su’s words about the decrees as truth, season 2 followed different groups that tried to fill the vacuum that was left by the disappearance of Jin-su.

With the emergence of Arrowhead, a rather extremist section of New Truth as the ruling organization, Hellbound Season 2 was full of action and unprecedented truths and twists.

Let us now unpack the intense season and its finale in detail.

The following article contains spoilers.

What happens to Jeong Jin-Su in Hellbound Season 2?

One of the major plotlines of Hellbound Season 2 was the resurrection of Jeong Jin-Su. However, a lot of the viewers were not aware that this former chairman of New Truth had died in the first place.

In the first episode of season 2, before coming back to the world of the living, Jeong Jin-Su sees visions from the perspective of different people belonging to different times and places.

Before coming back, the time Jeong Jin-Su had to spend in hell was understandably not the best one. Even after being resurrected, he was tormented by visions of monsters and that is why he became obsessed with finding Jung-ja, the only other person who had come back to the land of living from hell.

However, when Jung-ja told Jeong Jin-Su that she was not being tormented by any monsters and she never forgot who she was, Jeong Jin-Su got really frustrated and angry.

This is the time when Jeong Jin-Su started getting transformed into the creature he constantly kept having visions of - an executor. It seems that Jeong Jin-Su was never sure of who he was and suffered from a lot of regret and guilt.

Therefore, unlike Jung-ja, who remembered her kids as soon as she came back to the living world, Jeong Jin-Su had no idea who he was when he came back and kept getting haunted by monsters.

He remained a cowardly person and eventually transformed into an executor. Once fully morphed into the creature, he disappeared from the world of the living.

What was Senior Secretary Lee’s plan in Hellbound Season 2?

One of the key players in Hellbound Season 2, Secretary Lee tried to manipulate all the three factions of Hellbound. She was acting in the best interests of the government.

In simple words, Lee wanted to eliminate Arrowhead while also decreasing the power of both, Sodo and New World.

However, the government realized that it was far too difficult to completely erase New Truth since more than just being or existing as a political group, it was the most widely practiced religion of the country.

Therefore, the government decided that it would be the best decision to create another belief system that would be considered as a part of New Truth, but will eventually alienate Arrowhead, which according to them seemed to be the most dangerous of all the three factions of Hellbound.

Secretary Lee believed that the key to creating a different belief system was Jung-ja, as her coming back to the world of the living could be used as the beginning of another religion.

This is why Jung-ja’s speech at the end of season 2 was of much importance. However, Lee eventually decided that it was too dangerous to play along with New Truth.

Though during Hellbound Season 2, Sung-jip was a Sodo member, he used to worked for the government under Lee in the past. While being against the New Truth, Sung-jip also firmly believed that Jung-ja was too dangerous of a symbol to be kept alive.

Therefore, when Secretary Lee changed her way of working after realizing that it would be almost impossible to control New Truth, Sung-jip in-turn decided to murder Jung-ja.

When Hye-jin asked him why he tried to kill her, Sung-jip simply said that if not him, some other group would have inevitably captured her and used her as a lethal weapon against their enemies.

Park Jung-ja, on the other hand, after becoming the first person to come back from hell to the land of the living, became the most important person in the world. While all the influential and powerful political and religious leaders wanted to get hold of her to weaponize her, no one actually bothered about reuniting her with her children.

However, Hye-jin successfully saved Jung-ja from every effort that was put in to murder or kill her and eventually, she was reunited with her kids as well. Despite everything she had to endure, it is good to see that Hellbound Season 2 gave her a happy ending.

What happened to the Baby in Hellbound Season 2?

Jin-ah and Young-jae’s baby had been an important part of the plotline since the middle of the first season of Hellbound. The baby, who apparently survived a decree, was taken by Hye-jin and raised by her in secret.

However, it is gradually revealed that the baby did not survive the decree. She was actually burnt alive by the executors along with her parents. But, within just a few seconds of being burnt to death, the baby came back to life.

This went on to prove that neither Park Jung-ja or Jeong Jin-Su were the first ones to come back to the land of the living from hell, the baby was.

With the finale of season 2 ending with an infinite number of angels appearing all over the country and being visible to various people at the same time, the yet unannounced season 3 of Hellbound will definitely have a lot of questions to answer.

Hellbound Season 1 and 2 can be streamed on Netflix.
