In a tell-all discussion on her Scheananigans podcast, Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay has finally broken her silence on co-star James Kennedy's recent domestic violence arrest.
"He needs to get help and not just to prevent Ally or some other girl from being subjected to abusive behavior in the future, but to give himself a chance to live life with healthy relationships," Shay declared.
Addressing the incident that has sent shockwaves through the Bravo reality show's fanbase.
The arrest of James Kennedy, known for his DJ career and volatile personality on the long-running series that follows the personal and professional lives of staff at Lisa Vanderpump's West Hollywood restaurants, has become the latest drama to rock the show's cast.
For those who aren't familiar with Vanderpump Rules, the series has been a hotbed of jaw-dropping relationship drama, workplace tensions, and personal struggles since its 2013 debut.
James Kennedy, who joined the cast as a busser before rising through the ranks as a DJ, has had his fair share of controversial moments throughout his tenure on the show. This latest incident, however, marks a serious escalation that has prompted his usually diplomatic co-star to speak out.
Vanderpump Rules’ James Kennedy’s arrest and its aftermath
The incident occurred on December 10, when the Burbank Police Department responded to a call about an argument at Kennedy's Los Angeles home. The 32-year-old DJ was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence charges and later released on $20,000 bail, with formal charges pending review by the Burbank City Attorney's office.
According to law enforcement sources, a witness reported seeing Kennedy become physical with an unnamed woman, though responding officers noted no visible injuries at the scene.
Shay, who initially remained quiet about the situation, explained her silence on her podcast:
"I have spoken to Ali. I check in with her often. I always have. But I know it seems like if I stay silent, y'all somehow think I support his behavior, which I absolutely do not."
She emphasized that her initial reluctance to speak stemmed from respecting "Ally's privacy as she requested."
Scheana Shay talks about Kennedy’s past relationships
The reality star also expressed empathy for James Kennedy's ex-fiancée Rachel "Raquel" Leviss, noting that while Leviss "always told me that James was never physically abusive," she acknowledged that "abuse isn't limited to just physical, and ultimately, it led to her exiting that relationship."
Speaking of the professional consequences of Kennedy's actions, Shay observed that she's seen his name removed from certain shows, commending the move as a "direct consequence to his actions."
She said she hoped that this incident would serve as a "rock bottom moment" for Kennedy, once again emphasizing the need for genuine and true change rather than just "committing to a healing plan versus just seeing this as something that's gonna like ruin the world tour or residency or whatever."
Drawing parallels to her own relationship, Shay talked about her husband Brock Davies' personal growth as well:
"He's an incredible partner and father, and, you know, he's made some mistakes. But he's grown. He's learned from his past. And I thought James had too. Hopefully, now he finally will."
Representatives for James Kennedy have not yet commented on Shay's statements or the ongoing legal situation post-Kennedy's arrest.
