Matlock has achieved a dedicated fan following since its premiere on CBS in September 2024. The legal drama tells the story of Madeline 'Matty' Kingston, a retired lawyer who gets inspired by the 1980s television drama Matlock and joins a law firm in hopes of uncovering the truth about her daughter’s death.

So far, Matty has had some breakthrough in her mission, and as per the ending of the previous episode, the identity of the person who colluded with Wellbrexa might be out soon. However, fans have to wait for some time to find out what happens next as Matlock has gone on a break.

CBS will not air new episodes of the show for three weeks. The series will return to the network with its 16th episode on April 3, 2025. Keep reading to find out the reason behind the show’s hiatus.

Matlock has gone on a three-week break on CBS

Matlock Season 1 Episode 15 was aired on CBS on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Ever since, fans have been waiting for a new episode but the show has gone on a break till April 3, 2025. The reason behind the hiatus is that CBS is the broadcasting partner of the NCAA tournament.

The college basketball league is aired live on the network every year in the months of March and April. Hence, most of the Thursday and Friday night slots will be taken up by the tournament, and the airing of scripted shows will take a backseat.

Matlock will return to the screens on Thursday, April 3, 2025, with its highly-awaited 16th episode at the usual time of 9 p.m. ET/PT. The first season is set to have 18 episodes, hence, only three more episodes are left to be aired.

This is not the first time that the legal drama will make fans wait for new episodes. The show went on a hiatus right after its premiere in September 2024 and returned on October 17, 2024. Then, there was a break after the sixth episode, besides the mid-season winter hiatus on December 12, 2024.

Matlock: The story so far

The show started with Madeline “Matty” Kingston, a retired lawyer, who got a job as an associate at Jacobson Moore, a well-known law firm in New York City. She told people she needed money because her late husband had gambling debts.

In reality, she wanted to find out the truth about her daughter’s death, which she believed was connected to someone at the firm hiding important documents about opioids. Her first case was about Raymond Harris, a man who had been wrongfully convicted of some crimes.

With help from her co-workers Billy, Sarah, and Olympia, Matty found evidence that had initially been ignored, which led to Raymond being freed. As she adjusted to her new role, she also worked with Olympia on a difficult murder case involving a teenager with developmental delays.

As Olympia's trust for her grew, Matty gained access to important files. However, she struggled to find solid proof linking the firm to the opioid scandal. Meanwhile, she worked on different cases, including ones about workplace harassment and corporate wrongdoing, while secretly continuing her search for justice.

Eventually, Matty discovered that Olympia might have been involved in hiding the opioid documents. The identity of the informant remains to be confirmed, which forms the premise of the final episodes.
