Sad news for FBI: Most Wanted fans. CBS has canceled the hit police procedural series after its sixth season.

Developed by Rene Balcer and produced by Wolf Entertainment, the premiere episode of FBI: Most Wanted was broadcast on January 7, 2020 on CBS. After a successful first season, the police procedural show was renewed for a second season in May 2020. CBS renewed the show for a third season on March 2021 and a fourth and fifth season the next year. In April 2024, FBI: Most Wanted was picked up for a sixth season, which premiered on October 15, 2024.

However, following the sixth season, FBI: Most Wanted has been cancelled by CBS, according to a Variety report.

A spin-off of Dick Wolf's CBS series FBI (2018), the story follows FBI's New York Fugitive Task Force (FTF) who are responsible for tracking down America's most wanted criminals. The FTF crew consists of Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott (Dylan McDermott), Special Agents Sheryll Barnes(Roxy Sternberg), and Hana Bison (Keisha Castle-Hughes). The IMDb synopsis of FBI: Most Wanted describes the show as one that:

"Follows the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fugitive Task Force (FTF) who are tasked with tracking down and capturing notorious criminals on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List."

Along with FBI: Most Wanted, CBS has also cancelled FBI: International after its fourth season. The show debuted in September 2021. FBI: International currently is on its fourth season and airs at 9 p.m. ET every Tuesday. Despite these cancellations, the original FBI series will continue to air on CBS. Apart from that, a new spin-off called FBI: CIA is in development and could debut in 2025-2026. The official logline of the upcoming spin-off reads:

"A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street smart CIA agent are part of a new clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City."

Why has FBI: Most Wanted been canceled?

CBS hasn't confirmed the official reason for the cancellation of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. However, with a new spin-off, FBI: CIA, in development, it can be assumed that the previous spin-offs were canceled due to timeslot management issues.

Another reason why CBS might have cancelled the spin-offs is due to its poor ratings and viewership. As per a report by USTVD, FBI: Most Wanted ranked 15th on the CBS watchlist with Tracker, 60 Minutes, Georgia & Mandy's First Marriage, FBI and Matlock topping the charts in February 2025.

Why are there no episodes of the FBI franchise this week?

CBS has held up the FBI franchise airings this week (March 4, 2025). With the cancellation news of the two FBI spin-offs, viewers are worried whether the season will end midway. However, there is no reason to be sad because the upcoming episodes of the last season of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International will premiere on March 11, 2025.

The hiatus of one week is due to the President's speech, which happens every year in March. The President's speech is scheduled for March 4, where he will be sharing the goals and plans for the United States. CBS News will thus be dedicating the 9 p.m. ET slot to the speech and the responses that would follow.
