Apple TV's black comedy Bad Sisters wrapped up its Season 2 with a finale episode on December 23, 2024, which, according to creator Sharon Horgan, felt like an 'ending' to the series.
Since its inception, the series has received acclaim from viewers and audiences alike for its amazing storytelling.
The show follows the Garvey Sisters, who have always stuck around together and supported each other through thick and thin. They find themselves in the midst of an insurance investigation when one of their abusive husbands mysteriously dies, and they are blamed for his murder.
Bad Sisters Season 2 finally solved the mystery around John Paul and Grace's death and gave the Gravey sisters the closure they needed.
Apple TV has not officially renewed Bad Sisters for Season 3 and nothing is certain about the show's fate as of now.
More on Bad Sisters' future in our story.
Creator Sharon Horgan’s recent comments hint at slim chances for Bad Sisters Season 3
Horgan also plays the role of Eva, one of the Garvey sisters on Bad Sisters. Season 2 of the show was also expected as it was directly impacted by the events of Season 1 and felt like a continuation. But Season 2 does feel like an ending, and paired with Horgan's remarks, we might not be getting a Season 3.
In a recent interview with Elle UK, Horgan talked about her plans for the show,
“I always said to Apple, if I can’t think of a good enough story, I’m not doing it. I was really interested in showing what happens next and great characters don’t come along every day''
On asked about a potential Season 3, she added,
“Well, I don’t know. You’ve watched episode eight—it feels like an end.”
According to Horgan, she never intended for the show to be a murder mystery or a whodunit, which can continue with new stories in different seasons. She wanted the show to be centered around these sisters, who stuck together no matter what.
Her priority was to create a story centered around these characters and if Season 2 felt like a natural end, she would choose not to go for Season 3. In an interview with Deadline, she stated,
''These were always supposed to be ordinary women who an extraordinary thing happened to and how they dealt with it. And I didn’t ever want it to be a thing where just crazy shit kind of happens to them...but that can’t keep happening because otherwise, it’s Nancy Drew. It’s something else entirely.”
What do Horgan's recent remarks mean for Bad Sisters Season 3?
While fans would respect Horgan's vision for Bad Sisters, to not make it something that she has not envisioned for the show, it is still sad to see such an amazing show end with only two seasons.
While nothing is confirmed from Apple TV's side, and fans can still hope for a Season 3, Horgan's remarks clearly hint that the Season 2 ending was an 'ending' for her in a real sense.
But looking from a different perspective, Bad Sisters has continued to be at the top on Apple TV and has received praise from critics and audiences, who have liked the show's witty writing and engaging storyline.
One can only hope that Apple TV would want to keep benefitting from the show's success and renew it for another season, which would also mean negotiating with Horgan. That remains to be seen, but till then, we will keep our fingers crossed for a potential third season.
