Gabriel Macht gave a surprise to the fans of the popular legal drama Suits by showing up at the Suits LA premiere in Los Angeles on February 20, 2025. The event took place at One Universal, where Macht posed with the new show's main star, Stephen Amell. This marked the symbolic passing of the torch from his character, Harvey Specter, to Amell's Suits LA character, Ted Black.
Macht and Amell looked great in dark suits, just like their powerful lawyer characters on the show. While Macht isn't coming back as Harvey Specter full-time, he did say he would make a guest appearance in the spin-off series.
This was fantastic for fans who have followed the show for a long time. People on social media were happy about the reunion. NBC's official Suits Instagram page even posted a video of Macht and Amell shaking hands at the premiere.
The video shared a day ago, has over 167,000 likes as of the time of writing.
The post said:
After initially not wanting to play his famous character again, Macht is back.
Why did Gabriel Macht agree to return as Harvey Specter for Suits LA?
Macht's comeback to the Suits LA universe was a surprise. In 2019, when the show finished, he was clear about not playing Harvey Specter again.
“I’m not really interested in continuing on,” Macht had said at the time.
His attention had moved to spend more time with his family, specifically with his wife, Jacinda Barrett, and their kids Satine and Luca.
He talked about not wanting to deal with the challenges of finding acting jobs in his later years, like in his 50s and 60s. But after chatting with Aaron Korsh, he changed his mind and decided to return, even if for a three-episode guest stint.
Macht admitted to Variety,
“Initially, I didn’t want to do it. But then I thought about the fans.”
Macht's return to Suits LA was both a creative choice and a strategic business move, as emphasized by Korsh.
To make it work, the Suits LA team accommodated Macht's schedule, preventing any conflicts with his family life. The idea to bring back Harvey Specter grew from his bond with the show's central character, Ted Black. Macht shared there was history between them from their time in the D.A.'s office.
Viewers can look forward to flashbacks of their relationship and show how it impacts the current story of Suits LA.
Suits LA brings the legal drama to the City of Angels
Suits LA differs from the original by being set in Los Angeles, instead of New York. The production started in Vancouver, where the pilot was filmed in August 2024. However, due to a tax credit offered by California, the series moved to LA. This change gave the show a chance to feature the city's well-known spots.
Stephen Amell shared with Variety.
“We film at the northeast corner of the Universal lot. I don’t take the shortcut to work because I want to appreciate the history of this lot.”
Aaron Korsh, the showrunner of Suits LA, has included real locations from Los Angeles in the storyline. For example, the law firm's offices are in Century City, and scenes are shot at Musso & Frank Grill, a well-known place in Hollywood.
The show is not the same as the original Suits. It focuses on two different types of law: criminal and entertainment. This show is about a law firm that helps important people in trouble, like famous stars. According to Variety, real celebrities like Patton Oswalt and John Amos will play themselves in some episodes.
Oswalt said to Variety:
“There’s a lot of weirdness in this town that you do fall in love with. They don’t shy away from that.”
Josh McDermitt, a co-star on the show, described Suits LA as a love letter to Los Angeles. He emphasized the city's resilience, considering the recent wildfires that ravaged Pacific Palisades and Altadena just a few weeks before its premiere.
Suits LA will start on Sunday, February 23, 2025. You can watch it at 9 PM Eastern Time or 8 PM Central Time on NBC.
Also, it will be on Peacock for streaming.
