Hacks Season 4 is premiering on April 10, 2025 with the first two episodes dropping together. After that, the season will follow a weekly release schedule with new episodes coming out every Thursday.
The story will be picking up right where season 3 ended and talking about the kind of dynamic that Ava and Deborah’s character will be having in season 4, Jean Smart said to Deadline,
“This takes it to a whole new level. You know there’s just that bond there, and sometimes it gets real rough.”
As there is only a day left for the premiere of Hacks Season 4, now is a good time to brush up on what happened in Hacks season 3.
Hacks Season 3 ended with Ava and Deborah sharing equal power but a difficult dynamic
Hacks Season 3 shows how Ava and Deborah, after parting ways, have found success in their respective professional lives. Ava is shown to be a part of the writing staff of On the Contrary and her personal life also seems to be more stable as she is in a relationship with Ruby.
Deborah too is enjoying professional bliss as her DVD specials sell out and she moves closer to her dream of becoming a late night talk show host. However, despite doing well in their lives, the two seem to be missing something, which essentially hints at the fact that they are probably not yet done with each other.
This is soon proven to be true as Ava comes back to Las Vegas to work with Deborah as the show Ava is working on goes on a hiatus. This decision causes a rift between Ava and Ruby but as the former seems to have grown more sensible now, she ensures Ruby that she has not lost sight of her ambition.
As Ava and Deborah start spending more time together again, both of them go through emotional progress and we start to see a shift in their dynamic. As the season draws to a close, Deborah gets her dream job of becoming the late-night talk show host and while initially she hires Ava as the head writer, wanting to better secure her show , she then decides to make her the second-in-command.
Ava stood up to Deborah in Hacks Season 3 finale
Initially when Deborah offered Ava the second-in-command position, she accepted it as she believed that it was the decision that the network had taken. However, when she came to know that it was actually Deborah behind the whole thing, she understandably went livid.
She confronted Deborah and in a surprising turn of events threatened her with a move that has essentially been a signature of the older lady. Ava revealed that she knew that Deborah had slept with Bob Lipka, the network chairman, and since this was a clear conflict of interest of the show, she blackmailed Deborah to give her the head writer’s position back.
The move, coming from Ava, is a bit shocking at first but can’t be said to be completely unexpected as she and Deborah both have grown personally and professionally because of their time together. Ava also assures Deborah that she does not need to think of protecting the show because when they will work together, they would essentially ensure that and would do whatever is good for the show.
Season 4 will be picking up from here and it will be interesting to see how the two main ladies of Hacks work together now that the dynamic between them has changed significantly.
Hacks can be streamed on Disney+.
