Grotesquerie is a complex detective thriller from the imagination of American Horror Story and Monster creator Ryan Murphy. The story revolves around a team of investigators who delve into the mind of the most religiously obsessed serial killer in history.
The creator, Ryan Murphy, and John Landgraf, Chairman of FX Content & FX Productions, have dropped some hints about the possibility of future seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Landgraf believes that the season 1 finale can be a good starting point for further storylines. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Landgraf said,
"We’re definitely considering doing more because, as you’ll see at the end, it’s like a series of Russian nesting dolls. You just saw the doll within the doll. Then there are more dolls inside these dolls.”

7 incomplete storylines of Grotesquerie that need to be resolved in season 2
The Grotesquerie finale ended with a lot of big questions left unanswered. The first season was hopeless when it came to tying up all its plot points nicely by episode 9. As far as endings go, the multiple murders involved were pretty gruesome. The finale of season 1 looked more likely to prove Lois right, as the heroine's disturbing dreams began to come true in the penultimate episode.
This seemed to make the big twist of Grotesqueries episode 7 - that the whole series had been Lois' dream while in a coma.
1) Grotesquerie season 1 didn't explain who was the Biblical killer
In Lois's comatose dream, the killer Father Charlie, while his accomplice was Lois's harmless, eccentric friend Sister Megan. But in reality, Father Charlie was Lois' doctor and Megan was the police officer who had replaced Lois as head of the force.
Neither was linked to the murders, as Megan was investigating them, and the doctor was one of the final victims of Grotesquerie in the final scenes of the episode.
2) Marshall’s chances of being the copycat killer are high
When Lois awakens from her coma, she begins to see Dr. Whitcomb, a specialist who helps her understand her dreams and connect her alternate personalities to the people in her life. But when the murders from her coma start happening in the real world, Lois wonders if she is really awake.
Detective Megan Duvall confirms that she is awake, and Lois realizes that someone with access to her medical records is copying the murders.
Marshall, who declares himself innocent becomes an easy suspect as apart from the doctors he is the only one who has access to the medical documents. He joins a men's group, an apparent attempt at self-improvement.
When the entire murder scene is exposed to the public, and it is revealed that the victim was the same woman who had accused Marshall of assaulting her or physical abuse, it places Marshall squarely in the center of becoming one of the prime suspects as far as copycat murders are concerned.
3) A real murder brings Lois out of her coma dream
Megan comes to check out Lois. It is then that Megan reveals to Lois that Lois had shot him in a defensive mode. Lois helped clean up the mess so as not to arouse suspicion in case she was questioned by the police.
Megan persuades Lois to accompany her to the crime scene. When she arrives, Lois tells the police that she's returning to work and will help solve the murder because she knows Megan can't do it alone. Lois believes that Megan’s decision might be affected by the personal loss. The death of Megan’s abusive boyfriend allows Lois to completely come out of her coma dream.
4) Redd can me Marshall’s next victim
Marshall and Redd prepared dinner for Lois, trying to win her over with a martini and a surprising offer to live together in an unconventional relationship. However, Lois turned them down and Redd revealed Marshall's infidelity. She admitted that she had only played along to see Lois reject him.
Later, after a student accused Marshall of s*xual misconduct he attempted suicide. He denied the allegations, saying their relationship was consensual, but lost hope after he was arrested and charged.
Fortunately, Marshall's attempt was unsuccessful, and when he regained consciousness, Redd reaffirmed her decision to distance herself from him. But this brings out a plotline to season 2 where there is a high possibility for Redd to be Marshall’s next victim.
5) Marshall will not change even after joining the self-help group
Eddie took Marshall to the Mexicali Mens Club, which turned out to be a secret political group. The old-school, tough-guy attitude impressed the group, as they were quite conservative. They were also opposed to the concept of cancellation culture, but surprisingly open to using people's preferred pronouns.
The group seemed to have a mixture of old-fashioned and modern ideas: they supported traditional values and individual freedom, as well as some liberal causes.
6) Season 2 of Grotesquerie will throw more light on Lois’s dream and its relation with her reality
Despite all the gore, the mystery of the killer is never revealed, nor is the line between Lois's dreams and real-life defined, with the cult's involvement in the murders never understood. Hopefully, we will find the answers to these questions in the next season.
7) We can never be sure of how the creators want to turn the show
The creator John Landgraf has said that the show comprises layers of stories covered by a second layer. As seen in season 1 the complete show happened to be Lois’s dream so we cannot completely remove the fact that the show might turn its course at any point in time.
To know what is yet to come we will have to wait for season 2 of Grotesquerie.
Grotesquerie season 1 is available for fans to stream on Disney+.
