After 20 triumphant seasons, fans are curious about Grey's Anatomy season 21. It's been more than a decade since Grey's Anatomy premiered, and it is still one of the most adored American dramas.

Unlike the last season of Grey's Anatomy, the upcoming season will have more intrigue and also more episodes, with new and familiar faces in Grey Sloan.

The medical drama's renewal update was revealed in April and now it has been confirmed that Grey's Anatomy season 21 episode 1 will come out on September 26, 2024, at 10 pm on ABC channel.

If you thought that Meredith Grey's (played by Ellen Pompeo) exit from Grey's Anatomy hinted at the show's conclusion, then know that season 21 is just a month away, and fans will again delve into the lives of attending doctors, medical interns, and people at the Seattle Grace Hospital.

What's even more exciting about the upcoming season is that Ellen Pompeo will be seen portraying Meredith Grey in at least seven episodes.

The budget reduction has played a significant part in reducing the screentime of many cast members returning to Grey's Anatomy season 21. Multiple reports are suggesting that season 21 will introduce a new gay character in the drama, Dr. Levi Schmitt (played by Jake Borelli), while Mika Yasuda (portrayed by Midori Francis) is set to depart the show.

Dr. Levi will be seen in a few episodes of Grey's Anatomy season 21 to conclude his storyline, and who knows, he might run into the new gay character at the Seattle Grace Hospital.

Apart from these characters, original cast members, including James Pickens Jr.'s Richard, Kim Raver's Teddy, Chandra Wilson's Bailey, Caterina Scorsone's Amelia, Camilla Luddington's Jo, and Kevin McKidd's Owen will be seen in Grey's Anatomy season 21.

Is Amelia leaving Grey's Anatomy?

In season 20, it was Dr. Catherine Fox who lost her temper and fired Dr. Meredith Grey over her research on Alzheimer's disease, and even fired Dr. Amelia Shepherd and Dr. Teddy who were helping Dr. Grey in her research.

However, the firing does not mean that Caterina Scorsone's Amelia is leaving Grey's Anatomy, but the budget reduction may reduce her screen time on the show.

Not only this, but Amelia will also discover Monica and Winston's relationship, adding more curiosity to the medical drama. And this is just a small preview for fans wondering what's coming next in Grey's Anatomy season 21.
