Dr. Josephine 'Jo' Wilson has been a part of Grey's Anatomy for thirteen seasons now. Among the many cliffhangers presented by the recent eight episodes of season 21 of Grey's Anatomy, the fate of Jo's pregnancy is the foremost.

The eighth episode finale of Grey's Anatomy season 21 portrayed Lucas and Jo getting embroiled in a robbery at a convenience store. While Lucas tries his best to get the upper hand in the situation and subdue the armed robber, Jo starts abruptly bleeding and the fate of her pregnancy is made to hang in the balance.

Grey's Anatomy season 21 will return once again in March following its winter break. The audiences can expect the show to deliver answers to the cliffhangers upon its return. Until then, we're here to take a look at the details surrounding Jo's pregnancy, her journey on the show as a character, and actress Camilla Luddington's thoughts about the same. Here's everything we know.

Jo Wilson's pregnancy details from Grey's Anatomy revealed

At the beginning of episode eight, Jo makes a rather foreboding comment about pregnant people going into preterm labor owing to excessive heat conditions. Fast forward to the convenience store robbery and Jo and Lucas find themselves in a similarly threatening situation.

Following the sales assistant's attempt to overpower the armed robber with a bat, Lucas sprung upon him and tried to pin him down. In the struggle, the robber held on to the gun which could go off at any moment.

In between all this, Jo suddenly starts to bleed and that's when her pregnancy became known to Lucas. However, this isn't the first time that the character has been in a dangerous situation with pain being inflicted on her.

According to the show's narrative, Jo was the survivor of rape, was left abandoned at a fire station, and then raised by foster parents. She was in the throes of an abusive marriage before she escaped and had the trauma of watching her estranged husband die in front of her.

Camilla Luddington opens up about playing Jo Wilson on Grey's Anatomy

Actress Camilla Luddington, who plays Jo Wilson on Grey's Anatomy, spoke at length about her character and her experience of being on the show in an interview with Variety back in September this year. Regarding the journey and evolution of her character through the years, she stated:

"Initially, she wasn’t trusting at all with anybody, and she held her cards really close to her chest, and I’m so glad that she’s learned that she can be open and vulnerable. That’s not something I felt we saw initially, in the early seasons. It was something she really resisted. I feel like as time went on, I realized more of the depth of her trauma and her pain. Initially, she seemed just so combative over so many things. And over time, I think I came to understand why she had knee-kick reactions to certain things."

Speaking about the relationship between Jo and Alex, Camilla mentioned:

"The wedding was hysterical. I mean, the wedding was such a hot mess for those two characters that I can definitely look back on that episode and still laugh, even though they broke up. I can appreciate those moments because the whole thing was a disaster, but it was a perfect disaster for those two."

Camilla also commented about Jo's pregnancy. She stated:

"I’m not allowed to reveal where the story goes, because it could go many ways with a pregnancy, and you’ll discover that, obviously, in our premiere and moving forward. But I’ve always wanted Jo to have a big family, because I think that’s something that she wants too."

She continued,

"So, I was so excited — and I was really excited that it was with Link. He’s her best friend. It felt very romantic and I love the two of them together. I feel like they have such a healthy relationship, so I was game as long as they’re game. So far it’s been really smooth sailing with those two as a couple, and this season you’ll see it get a lot more rocky."

Grey's Anatomy season 21 will return in March 2025.
