ABC's longest-running medical drama, Grey's Anatomy, will finally return with new episodes in Season 21.

Season 21 Episode 8 premiered on November 21, 2024, and since then, the show has been on a winter break and will finally return with new episodes in March. Episode 9 of Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy will air on ABC on March 6, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

The midseason finale was jam-packed with two cliffhangers and one cast exit, which sets the show up for an exciting return.

Midori Francis' Mika Yasuda bid farewell to the show in Season 21, Episode 8, after her character was deeply affected by her sister's death, and it was shown that she could not continue in the hospital anymore.

Episode 8 also featured a convenience store robbery, where Jo and Lucas were at the hands of a robber, who potentially shot the latter.

After a long break of more than three months, Grey's Anatomy will finally return with the second half of Season 21 with Episode 9 on ABC on March 6, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Fans have missed their favorite show during this long break. But at least the episode will pick up from the cliffhangers left in Episode 8, the biggest being who got shot in Episode 8.

From the trailer, it seems like it was Lucas who got shot, and Jo is bleeding from her pregnancy, which means two emergencies for the doctors at Grey Sloan.

The episode will also feature Ellen Pompeo's return as Meredith Grey, who fears that Catherine's lesions might be cancerous.

Elsewhere, after Mika's shocking exit from the hospital in Episode 8, her co-workers will reel from losing their friend, especially Jules, who was starting up a potential romance with her.

What happened in the mid-season finale of Grey's Anatomy Season 21?

As mentioned above, Grey's Anatomy Season 21 midseason finale ended with two cliffhangers. The big case in Episode 8 was Amelia, where she worked on a teenage girl with multiple aneurysms.

While the surgery was very risky, she was accompanied by Winston, and the two finally did a very complicated surgery on the girl. But the worst was yet to come, as it was the moment of truth, i.e., to see if the girl's heart would restart after their surgery.

But to Amelia's heartbreak, the girl's heart did not restart, and the episode ended with her fate on the line. However, since miracles are a part of the show, it would be interesting to see what Amelia's patient will become in Episode 9.

Elsewhere, Mika rejoins the hospital after her car accident and subsequent surgery. But clearly, she is not yet ready to be back in the hospital, as she has still not moved past her sister's death's grief. She feels everything at the hospital reminds her too much about Chloe, and she bids farewell to her job and the hospital for good.

The other cliffhanger involved Jo and Lucas, who were involved in a convenience store robbery in the mid-season finale. While a pregnant Jo starts bleeding out, Lucas leaps at the robber, and we hear a gunshot, hinting that somebody has been shot, but the episode does not reveal who it is.

Tune in to Grey's Anatomy Season 21 Episode 9 on ABC on March 6, 2025.
