Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey's Anatomy is a popular ABC drama that premiered in 2005. The story follows Meredith Grey, a talented surgeon dealing with challenges in her personal and professional lives. The show left a great impact on its viewers, leading many fans to be fascinated by the medical world and pursue the profession for real.
Recently, on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, Ellen Pompeo, who plays the lead as Meredith Grey, says that she would not allow her 10-year-old daughter to watch the show, however, many students from her class have seen Grey’s Anatomy.
"My 10-year-old wants to see it, which, she's not ready," she said. "But a lot of kids in her class have seen it."
She also acknowledged that her elder daughter, who is around 15, has watched and liked it. However, the younger one isn't ready. Let's dive in to know more about what Ellen said about the show.
Why does Ellen Pompeo not want her daughter to watch the show?
She humorously admitted that she would not want her daughter to see her in her underwear on television, nor did she want her to see her interacting romantically with a ghost.
“I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear on television just yet. But all her classmates have. So, that makes for great conversation at pick-up.”
Meredith reunites with several deceased characters, including her late husband. This happens in season 17, when she is in a coma due to COVID-19. She also explained how her elder daughter cried when she watched the death scene of George O'Malley, one of the beloved characters in Grey’s Anatomy.
For days, a patient remained unidentified after a brutal accident. As a result, his face is severely injured, and he is admitted to the hospital. Later, when Meredith goes into the room, George writes "007" on her hand, and without a miss, she recognizes that it is George. Though the team tried their best to save him, he lost his life, marking one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in the show's history. The code referred to "license to kill" that George in previous episodes used for fun. But this moment, its meaning changed strangely.
Pompeo referred to the scene that many people, along with her daughter, found very emotional.
"My daughter had the same reaction when she saw the 007. She literally cried. I had to film it, and I couldn't hold it together."
She said that her daughter often argues with her, saying that her friends are watching the show, but the actor still thinks that some content in the show is for a mature audience.
"Where her friends are watching [the show]. But I still think there's a lot of inappropriate stuff that 10-year-olds should not be seeing.
She also talked about some absurd questions she often gets while her children are watching Grey’s Anatomy.
"So no judgment on other parents, but I just don't want to answer questions. I get some weird questions because I was in the scene. 'So, why are your panties on the bulletin board?' Really don't want to talk about that right now."
