Turkish crime drama Graveyard is back with a second season and new cases of femicides. Created by Tevfik Akbasli, the show revolves around a Special Crimes Unit team that looks into gender-based crimes that go unresolved for various reasons.
Led by Chief Inspector Onem Ozulku ( Birce Akaley), in the first episode of season 2, Onem and her team encounter the suicide of a woman named Yasemin, who is later revealed to have been murdered. As they investigate the case, Onem faces obstacles from unexpected places that make the case difficult to crack.
While investigating Yasemin’s case, they also unravel another unresolved case from years ago that might be linked to the current femicide case.
Here is the Graveyard Season 2, episode 1 recap.
Graveyard Season 2 Episode 1 recap: Who killed Yasemin?
The episode opens with a garden party at Fikret Sadoglu’s house, which Onem is forced to attend by Chief Haluk, while her team continues investigating the murder of Hasan's daughter, Seher Duru.
As the party continues, Yasemin’s mother, Nermin, finds her daughter hanging from the ceiling. Onem and Dr. Feriha rush to the crime scene and find out that Yasemin is six months pregnant. Feriha first tries to save Yasemin by performing CPR, and when it fails, she performs an emergency C-section to save the baby.
During the autopsy, Feriha finds out that Yasemin was first murdered and then hanged, making it a homicide case. Their first target appears to be Yasemin’s fiancee, Rustu.
Onem and Sardar meet with Fikret Saduglo and Ozkan to find Rustu’s whereabouts while Rustu goes to the morgue and says he wants to take Yasemin’s body with him. Feriha calls Onem, and Rustu is taken to the graveyard for interrogation.
Furthermore, Serdar and Berk find a suicide note on Yasemin,s laptop which is a poem called Suicide by Orhan Veli. Serdar points out that Yasemin was reading Cervantes’ novel, Don Quixote, so she should have something by Cervantes as a suicide note, not a poem by Veli.
Serdar reveals that Rustu, a former weightlifter, was rendered infertile due to steroid use. They also discover medication in his house for his condition, further proving he couldn't be the father.
As Rustu’s footprint matches the one they found at the crime scene, Selin and Onem interrogate him. Rustu reveals that he and Yasemin had an argument, and she broke off their engagement. He later went to apologize and found her hanging from the ceiling. The interrogation unraveled many facts, like Rustu knowing Yasemin was pregnant and being ready to accept her, and also that Ozkan had threatened Yasemin to marry Rustu or get an abortion.
After the team finds a CCTV footage where Ozkan forcibly takes Yasemin to a Gynecologist’s clinic but fails to abort her child as she runs out after 10 minutes, they bring Ozkan in with Haluk’s help. When questioned, Ozkan accepts the child is his but refuses to do a DNA test. However, Onem comes with a warrant against him and takes the DNA test.
Onem then asks him about an old case involving an employee named Lale, who died by falling from the stairs of Saldugo Holdings. She confronts him and criticizes him for helping Fikret Saldugo hide the evidence that could prove that Lale’s death was also a femicide.
Later, Onem and Serdar visit Yasar Saldugo to convince him to help them find evidence to catch Yasemin’s killer. However, Tolga Saldugo interrupts, and they fail to find any possible leads.
Graveyard Season 2 Episode 1 recap: Onem's team makes progress in Seher's case

While looking into a twisted case, Onem and her team are also struggling in their personal lives. Her daughter, Sude, releases the first episode of her true-crime podcast with her friend, Can. One gets into an argument with her when she asks more about Can.
Apart from that, the team also makes progress in Seher’s murder case after they eliminate Sermiyan, as his gun doesn’t match the murder weapon. This leaves only one suspect—Mert, Seher’s brother—putting Hasan in a dilemma.
At the end of Episode 1, Ozkan calls Onem, pretending to call his son. Sensing foul play, she rushes to his house. However, when Onem and her team reach Ozkan’s house, he is already dead.
