Goosebumps: What to expect in Season 3 after the second chapter's cliffhanger ending?

Disney+ dropped all eight episodes of Goosebumps: The Vanishing on January 10, 2025. The Vanishing is the second season of the show. The first season had released in October 2023.

The supernatural show is based on RL Stine's book series of the same name and follows an anthology format. In sync with Stine's writing, the stories don't have a 'happily ever after' end. Executive producer Rob Letterman of Goosebumps: The Vanishing said:

“When we switched into an anthology, it really fit what Goosebumps is. So if you’re fan of the books, you know that RL Stine doesn’t write happily ever after at the end of the books.”

Speaking to Us Weekly, he added:

“In fact, he goes out of his way not to do that. He leaves it with a cliffhanger or a twist.”

The series has taken the same approach and, after drawing material from multiple books by RL Stine, the second season ended leaving many unanswered questions. This left fans wondering if a third season of Goosebumps was in the cards.

Is Goosebumps Season 3 happening?

As of now, there has been no official update on Goosebumps being renewed for a third season. Despite the cliffhanger ending, Disney+ is likely to consider different metrics of the show’s reception before deciding to renew it.

While the first season of Goosebumps followed a bunch of teenagers investigating a decade-old mystery involving with their parents’ past, the second season saw a completely different story where two siblings realize there is something off at the home of their estranged father.

Given the format of Goosebumps, Season 3 seems logically plausible in case the network deems it fit to renew, based on how well the show is taken.

Moreover, despite the first season being a hit upon release in 2023, news of the show's renewal for a second season came only in February 2024. Therefore, it might take some time before there is an official update regarding Goosebumps Season 3.

What to expect from Goosebumps Season 3 if it happens?

Speaking to Us Weekly regarding what fans expect from Season 3 and whether questions from Season 2 would be answered in the new season in case it happens, Letterman said:

“We don’t think that far into the future. We’re one day at a time process. But yes, of course, and you can do anything you want with Goosebumps. That is what is cool about it.”

Hilary Winston, another executive producer, added there could be a Goosebumps multiverse. The new season could also possibly see the return of Francesca Noel as Alex. Noel said:

“There are so many stories and it really depends on what the fans want and how they respond. We are here for it. We love these characters and obviously I think the last season also loved their characters. The world is big and we’re here to play.”
