BitBox, a company that focuses on transforming children's coding education, made an entrance in Shark Tank Season 8 Episode 17. Scott Lininger and Aidan Chopra, the company's founders, demonstrated their subscription-based service, which helps children gain interest and engage in learning programming through the development of apps. Their goal of making coding fun and accessible drew the attention of the sharks, who were seeking $250,000 for a 3% equity in their company.
Standing before the panel, the entrepreneurs revealed how with over $1.3 million in lifetime sales and a rapidly expanding subscription base, the company stats have been hitting the roof. While guest shark Chris Sacca showed interest in the concept, the founders went home empty-handed despite their good pitch.
After every other shark opted out, Sacca put forward his offer of signing a $250K cheque for 5%. However, when the founders went into desperate negotiation, the guest investor felt disrespected,
"Are we seriously gonna nickel and diamond over 250? I mean, you're that close and you're going to show me the disrespect? I'll tell you what. I'm going to make it easy on you. I know what I bring to the table and this is a long long road ahead and you've got the ruler out and you're measuring in quarters of inches right now. You're not looking at the magnitude of value I can bring down the road and so I'm going to make it easy on you. I'm out."
When BitsBox made an appearance on Shark Tank Season 8 Episode 17
On Shark Tank Season 8 Episode 17, BitsBox introduced an entertaining and engaging method of teaching children aged 7 to 14 to code. Through the monthly coding projects offered by the subscription-based educational platform, kids can easily and enjoyably learn programming fundamentals by designing their games and apps. Scott Lininger and Aidan Chopra, the founders, wanted to get some experts on board to expand their brand.
Along with Grace, a 10-year-old, Scott, and Aidan expressed their enthusiasm for using technology to develop young brains while having fun on Shark Tank. They emphasized BitsBox's remarkable expansion, which included over $1.3 million in revenue in just 18 months and a solid subscription base. The two also revealed how their different versions sell from $20-$40 monthly and how the company also offers a yearly subscription opportunity.
After getting a no from every shark, it was between a guest shark, Chris Sacca, and the two former Google employees. Countering their original ask of $250K for 3%, the investor decided to offer the same sum for 5% shares.
After a to-and-fro of negotiation, things got upsetting for the expert. He felt that the owners were trying too hard to impress him with his words but weren't ready to budge on the numbers. As a result, the three had to leave the stage of Shark Tank without any cheque in hand.
