Following the success of shows like True Detective and Mare of Easttown, HBO is coming up with another detective drama, Get Millie Black. The British series is all set to premiere in the US on November 25, 2024.

The series follows detective Millie-Jean Black, who returns home in Jamaica after serving in the Scotland Yard. As Millie investigates a missing person’s case, her personal life also starts getting affected and she unearths some surprising truths about the city’s underbelly.

Get Millie Black has been written and created by Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James. The highly anticipated show was announced back in 2021 and will now finally arrive on the television screens.

The show revolves around Millie-Jean Black, a Jamaican-born detective who gets pushed out of her job at Scotland Yard in the UK. She returns to Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, where she joins the local police force to work on missing person cases.

Millie partners up with Curtis, a Jamaican detective, and together they take on cases that dig deep into Kingston's underworld. Things take a surprising turn when one of their investigations crosses paths with a Scotland Yard detective named Luke Holborn, who has come to Jamaica for a different case.

While Millie searches for a missing child, her own life turns upside down as some shocking revelations come out. HBO launched the official trailer for Get Millie Black in October 2024, which shows the detective talking about the case as a ‘ghost story’ like ‘every story about Jamaica.’

Shots of blood-stained crime scenes and intense moments in the trailer hint that the investigation is more than just a police case for her, it is personal, and it might change her forever. The official synopsis for the show reads:

“Ex-Scotland Yard detective Millie-Jean Black returns to Kingston to work missing persons cases, soon finding herself on a quest to save a sibling who won’t be saved, to find a child who can’t be found, to solve a case that will blow her world apart and prove almost as tough to crack as Millie Black.”
