Get Millie Black is a detective series that is scheduled to debut on HBO on November 25, 2024. The crime drama tells the story of a Jamaican-born detective, Millie-Jean Black, who returns to her home country after being ousted from Scotland Yard.

Tamara Lawrance plays the lead role of Detective Millie-Jean Black. Millie is a Jamaican-origin officer who was born and brought up in England. She is thrown out of her job as an officer at Scotland Yard, after which she moves to Kingston, Jamaica.

In Jamaica, she teams up with Detective Curtis to investigate cases in the capital city. Meanwhile, she faces an identity crisis as she claims to be both British and Jamaican, but feels like she belongs nowhere.

Similar to her character, Lawrance is a British actress of Jamaican descent. She is a well-known name in English theater and television and has appeared in shows like Undercover, Mr Loverman, No Offence, and Time.


2) Joe Dempsie as Luke Holborn

Joe Dempsie stars as Luke Holborn in Get Millie Black. Holborn is an inspector at Scotland Yard who travels to Jamaica to investigate a case. However, he ends up crossing paths with his former colleague, Millie, as the two work on intertwined cases.

Dempsie shot to fame with his role as Gendry Baratheon in HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones. He has also appeared in shows like Pieces of Her, Deep State, New Worlds, Skins, and Showtrial.


3) Gershwyn Eustache Jnr as Curtis

Gershwyn Eustache Jnr plays Curtis, Millie’s fellow police officer in Jamaica who solves cases with her. While Curtis is an extraordinary detective, he struggles in his personal life as he has to hide his love life from his department.

Eustache Jnr is famous for his role as Taramyn Barcona in the Disney+ Star Wars series, Andor. He has also been seen in several other shows including A Spy Among Friends, I May Destroy You, Britannia, and Stephen.


4) Chyna McQueen as Hibiscus

Chyna McQueen portrays Hibiscus, who is a ‘gully queen.’ Gully Queens are LGBTQ+ people in Jamaica, especially young, homeless individuals who live in abandoned storm drains, or ‘gullies,’ to find safety.

McQueen is an actress and model who is making her screen debut with Get Millie Black. She has previously appeared on several magazine covers, especially for LGBTQ+ campaigns.


5) Dorothy ‘Patra’ Smith as Hit Girl

Dorothy Smith, aka Patra, plays Hit Girl, the owner of a go-go bar known for her entrepreneurial skills in the underworld. Patra is a renowned Jamaican singer famous for her work in the reggae and dancehall genres. She rose to fame in the 1990s and is celebrated for hits like Worker Man and Romantic Call.
