Jim Halpert from The Office, portrayed by John Krasinski, was once the show's lovable everyday hero known for his clever jokes and romance with Pam Beesly. Some fans now question if he was as good-hearted as they initially thought. People are debating whether Jim's pranks on Dwight Schrute and his relationship with Pam truly made him a likable character.

However, a resurfaced discussion on X (previously Twitter) has sparked a reevaluation of his character on The Office.

Users like @nashdelirium argue that:

“If you rewatch the first few seasons, he’s genuinely not a good person.”

@okimstillhungry took it further by poking fun at a moment when Jim awkwardly reacted to Toby Flenderson's fist bump attempt, which they termed "autistic." This comment could be seen as controversial as well.

Some fans have noticed that in Season 2, Jim often treats Katy with a dismissive attitude and shows passive-aggressive behavior to his colleagues. As people continue to watch The Office, a growing number of viewers think that maybe Jim isn't the hero everyone believes him to be, but rather a bit of a bully.

The Office fans think Jim Halpert was a passive-aggressive bully disguised as the hero

Jim Halpert often faces criticism for how he treats his colleagues, especially Dwight Schrute. Although Dwight's quirky nature made him an obvious choice for joking around, Jim's pranks sometimes crossed the line of harmless fun.

Jim is seen placing Dwight's belongings in Jell-O, mimicking him, and purchasing his website domain with plans to resell it at a much higher cost. While these were intended for humor, some feel they were overly harsh.

As user @p_florez_ put it,

“He’s so mean to Dwight for no reason, like chill dude.”

Jim often shows disdain for Dwight, but his attitude doesn't stop there. He also behaves this way with other colleagues. For instance, he rolls his eyes at them a lot. He openly makes fun of Michael Scott, their boss.

Because of this, some fans have started to see Dwight differently. They realize that maybe Dwight isn't the only one causing trouble. Jim's sarcastic behavior has become a common part of his interactions with others at work.

Did Jim Halpert go from a jerk to a redeemed character?

Some The Office fans think Jim isn't naturally a bad guy. They say his character stands for someone unhappy at work, stuck in a job they don't like. He tried to bring relief from this by being sarcastic and playing tricks.

As @jasonbielecki noted,

“They wrote him to be this too-cool-for-school kinda guy, and I think they realized that it was unlikable, so they changed it up.”

As The Office went on, Jim's character began to change, especially after he married Pam and had kids. He started to take his job more seriously and even helped start a new business focused on sports marketing. This might have been planned by the show's creators. It helped people keep liking him even though he had some not-so-great traits at the beginning.

Some The Office viewers, however, never really warmed up to his personality. A fan named @lesilly put it like this:

“Yep. Him and Pam are pretty much just condescending a-holes.”

The Office is available on Peacock in the US and various platforms worldwide.
