"Generational curses": Love is Blind star Madison opens up about her relationship with her mother

Love is Blind Season 8's first episode premiered on Netflix on February 14, 2025. The reality show features individuals searching for a potential connection that can become a commitment in the coming weeks.

One of the blind dates featured on the show's debut episode was between Alex, 29 and Madison, 28. While sharing different things about themselves, the female cast member shared about her mother. She mentioned "generational curses" and shared:

"My relationship with my mother's tough. I still talk to her...when I can. Sometimes it gets to be a bit much for me, um, 'cause I've just had to be, like, a parent to her my whole life, but I really love her. I have a lot of compassion for her. And I think there's a lot of, like, generational curses that I'm trying to break."

She added:

"It's just so many things that I don't wanna take into, like, my family next. And sometimes I get upset about that. But I have to remember, like, the cards that she was dealt. She didn't break all the generational curses, but she probably broke some."

Love is Blind Season 8: A date between Alex and Madison during the first episode

In his introductory video, Alex, 29, a commercial real estate broker, shared that when he was younger, he was "extremely unattractive and nerdy and weird:"

"People didn't talk to me. I had, like, this big Afro. I had braces. I had really severe acne. I wore this big, purple sweater every day 'cause I just felt comfortable in it."

He had a blind date with Madison, 27, an artist. They talked about how they love to travel, while Alex mentioned he enjoys "seeing different ways of life." When Madison asked about the qualities that he was looking for in a partner, he told her:

"I just want someone who's kind."

In response, Madison mentioned that it was "really important" that people felt safe with her. Listening to her saying that, Love is Blind's male cast member told her she was saying "all the right things."

Further on their date, Madison opened up about her childhood and shared:

"I had a rough childhood. Yeah, so my parents never got married, actually. So they had me when they were 19. My mom, she was relly surrounded by a lot of drugs, and she was in kind of a rehab program when she met my dad, and they had me on accident. Met my stepdad when I was two, married him, and...I also actually lost my stepdad when I was in eighth grade to a drug overdose."

She then shared about her relationship with her mother. The female cast members said she talks to her mother whenever she can, but sometimes it feels "a bit too much" for her. However, she mentioned that she had a lot of "compassion" for her mother.

Love is Blind star Madison shared that there were lots of "generational curses" that she has been trying to break. She also mentioned that she didn't want to take any of those curses into the family, which she wanted to build and have:

"So now I would say I'm close with my brother and my sister. Like, I just wanna be the person for them that I never had."

Listening to her side, Love is Blind star Alex sympathized with her and told her that it was "a lot" and must have changed her "a lot."
