Slow Horses has been steadily building great momentum in its favor. This is repudiated by the fact that even before the fifth season of Slow Horses arrived, the Apple TV+ show had been greenlit for a sixth season. In the recently concluded 2025 Golden Globe Awards ceremony, Slow Horses star Gary Oldman, who plays the character of Jackson Lamb, spilled some exciting news about the sixth season of the show.

Slow Horses star Gary Oldman was on the red carpet of the 2025 Golden Globes alongside co-actor Jack Lowden when he revealed to Extra TV:

"This is Adam Randall who directed season 4 and is directing season 6, which we're all going back to tomorrow."

At this point, the interviewer expressed a note of confusion, wondering whether the upcoming fifth season might be passed over. To this, Oldman clarified:

"5 is coming out and then we’re in the middle of 6.”

Slow Horses is based on the series of books written by author Mick Herron and follows a group of washed-up MI5 operatives who are forced to bear the brunt of administrative disdain after messing up on previous assignments. The fourth season of the show concluded with a tragic finale in October last year. Here's everything that we know.

What's the latest buzz around Slow Horses season 6?

Slow Horses first debuted on Apple TV+ back in 2022 and since then each successive season has been met with appreciation across the board. Consequently, the network has kept on greenlighting one season after the other.

Although there isn't an official release date for the upcoming fifth season, it can be speculated that by judging the past release schedule of the show, season five can drop sometime in the latter half of 2025, with the sixth season then arriving in the second half of 2026.

The sixth season of the Apple TV+ show is based on two books penned by Mick Herron, namely Slough House and Joe Country while the fifth season is believed to be an adaptation of the novel London Rules.

Gary Oldman will be reprising his role as MI5's hard taskmaster Jackson Lamb, leading a group of disgraced operatives through the murky world of international espionage and against the sinister forces led by Frank Harkness.

Gary Oldman opens up about Slow Horses

Gary Oldman has been veritably described as having the unique ability to completely blend in with his roles. The case of his portraying Jackson Lamb reiterates this popular notion. Speaking about the evolution of his character, Oldman had previously stated:

"Well, he's in a way your mainstay, but the thing about coming back to each season... the dye is set with the lad. I don't expect to read a script... elements of him are revealed, slight little reveals where we get a sense of who he maybe was in the past. We've just wrapped Season 5. There's a lot more Jackson Lamb that we learn there, but I think, every time we come back to it, we know what we're gonna get. We're gonna come back and revisit that character. I'm not gonna open the script and read some crazy character arc... he's a constant."

He also emphasized the importance of Mick Herron's character development as enshrined in the novels, in an interview with Variety magazine. Oldman remarked:

"In terms of creating character, this all comes from the imagination of Mick. It’s very detailed and the books are full of information. A lot of the work of putting this man together has been done for me. I get ideas as I read and go along. There are things in the book and script that spark conversations in your head.”

All seasons and episodes of Slow Horses are exclusively available on Apple TV+.
