Seeing Gabriela Perez depart from Fire Country feels bittersweet. Her character has been such a vital part of the show's emotional center, negotiating troubled relationships, confronting personal threats, and evolving along the way.
Stephanie Arcila portrayed Gabriela with such passion that it's painful to watch her journey come to an end. Nevertheless, as painful as it is, I believe her departure was crucial after watching the latest chapter.
Gabriela had undergone so many strong storylines, particularly with this recent stalking story arc, that it seemed as though her own story was inherently building towards a breaking point in Fire Country Season 3.
Although I'll certainly miss having her appear each week on Fire Country Season 4, I believe taking time off allows her character the respect she deserves rather than diluting her story.
Knowing that Arcila herself understood and supported the creative decision to end Gabriela’s run makes it a little easier to accept. And who knows — with her saying "never say never," maybe there’s still a chance we’ll see her again.

Gabriela's journey in Fire Country was filled with intense highs and lows

Gabriela Perez isn't just a love interest of Fire Country's main character, Bode Leone, but also a brave firefighter and EMT for Station 42. Not only this, Arcila's character has her own story in the CBS drama, and if we look at what she has been going through in her life lately, Gabby needs a complete reset.
From her troubled love life with Bode and Diego to dealing with traumatic personal events such as being stalked, Gabriela's journey had actual emotional gravity. Stephanie Arcila also discussed how the stalking scene was a significant turning point, as Gabby never thought something this terrible would happen to her.
While she's one of my favorite characters in Fire Country, it was a little frustrating to watch how she keeps on facing one problem after handling another. But that's actually what the hit CBS drama is all about.
At one point in Season 3, Gabby almost lost his father due to Oxalta, which again added to her worries. When Oxalta's case was solved, Gabby learned the truth about Finn being an insane and obsessive man.
She thought he might be a hope in her love life, but things took the most unexted turn. She was also devastated by the fact that Audrey had to shoot Finn in self-defence, and she ended up getting herself in for the act.
During the same interview with Deadline, the actress was asked to shed light on the moment when Audrey shot Finn, and then Manny arrives at the Leone house and asks his daughter to treat the stalker as a patient. Arcila shared:
"I think Gabriela has been through so much in her life that I don’t know if it was hesitation more than trauma shock, when someone freezes in a traumatic situation, and as soon as she snaps out of it, she goes straight into work."
Gabriela transformed from a woman looking for stability to a woman who fought hard to defend her peace. In two seasons of Fire Country, it seemed like she had undergone a massive emotional arc — one that was compelling, but also draining to see play out without a clear new path for her character.

Even the creators believe Gabriela's story feels complete after Fire Country Season 3

Gabriela did not leave because of off-camera controversy or last-minute decisions. It was a creative decision by the executive producers of Fire Country, who felt that her plot had run its course.
Stephanie Arcila herself was very gracious about it, stating that she could see how TV shows run their course and that occasionally characters need to depart so that the overall story remains healthy.
There's been fan speculation regarding whether budget concerns came into play, but officially, it was all about the story. On the bright side? Arcila left the door open to possibly returning in the future. So, although Gabriela's exit appears to be for good, at least for the time being, there's always a possibility that she might pop up again — possibly even better than ever.
