Stephen Amell, known for playing Arrow, has had some funny moments as Ted Black in Suits LA. His (at the time) 10-year-old daughter, Maverick, loved one line from the show. It's not something you'd say in front of kids, though.
Amell shared with People that when Stephen was trying out for the part, Maverick helped him practice his lines.
One line, in particular, caught her attention:
“If you’re not signing right now, I’ll cut off my left ball if they’re not signing right now.”
This content is only suitable for mature viewers. Surprisingly, it has become her favorite even though she was born as recently as October 15, 2013.
In the show, when something big happens, as the deal finally gets signed, Stephen's character says this funny line as he beams with pride.
It goes like this:
“Left ball lives.”
The actor admitted that Maverick found it absolutely hilarious.
He told People:
“My daughter thought that was the funniest thing she’s ever heard. Even now, whenever I mention that I’m going to work, she’s like, ‘Left ball lives, Dad. Left ball lives.’”
The joke is definitely NSFW and inappropriate, but Maverick seems to like it just because it sounds funny, without knowing what it fully means.
Suits LA's comedic edge
The Suits franchise is known for high-stakes legal tactics with humor, and Suits LA stays true to this. Like the original Suits (2011-2019), which featured Harvey Specter's witty one-liners and Mike Ross' fast thinking, the LA spinoff brings its flavor of humor. It often plays with the quirks of the entertainment law world.
Stephen Amell's character, Ted Black, is a strong lead with a sharp tongue and a no-nonsense attitude. His humorous yet commanding presence sets the show's tone, as in the famous "Left Ball Lives" scene. Suits LA sure stands apart in the crowded legal drama genre with its banter and light comedy!
NBC decided to revive the Suits universe in 2025, mainly because the OG show made a massive comeback on Netflix in 2023. The popularity of the original's humor and charm likely influenced the new series' style. With Ted Black in the lead, the show keeps the humor coming, even amid legal fights.
Ted Black vs. Harvey Specter as Suits LA sets its path
When comparing characters from a spinoff to the original show, it's natural to think of Gabriel Macht's Harvey Specter. However, Suits LA quickly makes it clear that Ted Black is different. For starters, unlike Harvey, Ted can face his demons without hiding.
Ted's relationship with his dad, played by an actor from Arrowverse, is central to his story on Suits LA. Unlike Harvey, who didn't get to say goodbye to his father, Ted has a tough closing moment. This separates their journeys and gives the show a new angle on family relationships.
Their approaches to law are also different. Harvey was all about confidence and making big moves. Ted, however, has been a prosecutor, so he knows both sides of the courtroom. This gives him an edge that even Harvey didn't always have. Both are charming, and Black seems a solid addition to the Suits family.
Whether or not Maverick Amell will ever make a guest appearance remains to be seen, but for now, Left ball lives!
Suits LA airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC; the next day, it is on Peacock.
