Great news for fans of Beef! The hit show on Netflix is coming back for another season. Carey Mulligan says the new season will be even wilder. The show's first season was a big success. It got eight Emmy awards and three Golden Globes and was made by Lee Sung Jin.

At SXSW 2025, Carrey Mulligan talked to Liam Crowley from Screen Rant about what to expect in the new season. She said:

“It is fully sideways. The kind of wonderful appeal of it is just that it’s so unpredictable, and it shall remain so.”

She said Beef will have a surprise twist. This time, it will be a collection of different tales, which means it's going to be unpredictable. The new cast includes Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, and Youn Yuh-jung.

Mulligan didn't give too much away, but she did say the second season will keep you guessing. This sets the stage for more mind-game-type drama.

Season 2 changes direction from Season 1, which was about a feud that started with a road rage incident. Now, the story is about a rich couple and their employees. The young couple, probably played by Melton and Spaeny, see their boss, Isaac, and his wife, Mulligan, arguing at a country club.

The employees think they can use this to get ahead in life. Mulligan hints that this new season will be more chaotic and surprising than the first one.

While Season 1 had a lot of small, nasty fights that got worse, Beef Season 2 will have more mind games and psychological tricks. The show will still keep you guessing, but it will get more intense with the power struggle in high society.

At the Sundance Festival, Mulligan shared her thoughts on the series' allure to Collider. She said its unpredictability is a key factor:

“Sometimes, it’s just nice to have no idea where a story is going. As an audience and also as someone who’s in it. That’s definitely the case.”

Beef Season 2 is set to outdo its predecessor

Beef's first season was a hit with critics and viewers alike, known for its rich storytelling, dark humor, and raw emotional power. It ended with a strong impact, tying up various plotlines in a surprising finale. Now, with Lee Sung Jin back as showrunner for Season 2, fans can't wait to see how the show evolves.

This new season looks like going in a slightly different direction. Instead of focusing on a simple road rage incident, it will explore conflicts driven by wealth, privilege, and ambition. It's like The White Lotus, drama, and social observations.

The setting has changed too—now we are in an elite country club with morally ambiguous characters. This suggests that the tension might be more calculated and slow-burning compared to the spontaneous anger we saw in Season 1.

So, get ready for a new kind of drama. Beef's still going to be intense, but the way it unfolds might be more sophisticated. The show is building on its strong foundation, but also growing and trying new things. It is all about taking the best parts of what worked before and adding a fresh twist.

And just like The White Lotus, it will keep us guessing with every episode.
