Former Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is exploring a new venture, and this time as a host. The chef is set to star on America's Culinary Cup, and this will mark her return to the culinary reality TV industry. The series is commissioned by CBS and is expected to be released later this year.

CBS has said that the show will feature a cast that includes the "nation's most decorated chefs." It says,

"CBS’ new culinary showdown will feature an invitation-only cast of the nation’s most decorated chefs as they embark on a one-of-a-kind competition designed to challenge their creativity, endurance, presentation, leadership, and more."

Padma Lakshmi is cast as a host while she also serves as an executive producer.

Padma Lakshmi is an established chef in the culinary world and has served as a host on the esteemed Top Chef. She left a couple of years ago, wanting to pursue other creative ventures as well as work on a series called Taste the Nation.

She started her journey on Top Chef back in 2006, which ended in 2023 after 19 seasons. Talking about her exit with Variety, Padma Lakshmi revealed that it was an "exhausting" job.

It was because the filming of the Bravo show happened in such a way that she needed to be on location for eight months straight, which rarely gave her a chance to dip her toes in other pursuits.

Now that Lakshmi is back in the hosting game, she talked of America's Culinary Cup and said,

"We’re inviting elite chefs from across the country to represent their unique culinary style and battle it out. This competition echoes the thrill of sports and the American spirit as we cheer on our favorite chefs. I’m very excited to work with CBS and partner with Susan on ‘America’s Culinary Cup.’”

Leaving Top Chef was a huge change in Lakshmi's life, as mentioned by her. However, her desire for a change and to "challenge" herself was stronger. Throughout her career, Lakshmi has been nominated for the Emmys 16 times. She has also created the series called Taste the Nation for Hulu.

With America's Culinary Cup, CBS will return to the culinary reality TV sector after more than 10 years. With Lakshmi at the helm, the process is expected to be streamlined given her extensive experience in the field.

Top Chef Season 22 episodes release weekly on Thursdays at 9 PM Eastern Time on Bravo TV. Later, they can be streamed online via Peacock.
