Spring Baking Championship Season 11 Episode 4: Jon'nae Smith reveals her plan for the week while preparing faux eggs for the pre-heat challenge
The fourth episode of the baking championship required bakers to prepare faux eggs as a dessert that looks like eggs. Referring to that, Jon'nae shared with the cameras:
"I plan to do a white cake pop with a strawberry buttercream and a blood orange ginger yolk. My concerns are not the inside of the egg. My concern is definitely the outside. This is spooky. I know it's Spring Baking Championship, but this is spooky time because I do not temper chocolate."
Later on, while working on her dessert dish, she shared that she was "hoping" for the best. Further, she planned to attempt to "temper" the white chocolate into a shell and have some sugar flowers. She expected the mould to "come out" in the shape of eggshells.
With 15 minutes left until the preheat challenge time, the bakery owner from Atlanta was trying to pop the white chocolate eggs out of the mould. However, it did not go according to her plan. When the host, Jesse Palmer, noticed that, she replied:
"My chocolate shells did not pop out. It's not working. No words."
Since her previously prepared white chocolate eggs did not "pop out" from their mould, she used her genoa halves paired with white chocolate ganache. She planned to glaze her egg halves and present them on the plate. As the time was up, she exclaimed that she was "not happy at all" with what she had done.
"Judges, delicious baked good nesting inside a chocolate eggshell," stated the host.
When it was Jon'nae's turn to present her faux eggs to the judges, she explained her dessert dish:
"So I did a white cake and...I dipped it in a chocolate shell."
Judges appreciated her luster dust which was "very dainty" and "sparkly." However, it wasn't looking like an "egg," as the judges pointed out. Later, while tasting Jon'nae's faux eggs, judges noted that "cutting it open" felt like an egg. Further, judges enjoyed the blood orange yolk with a "bit of a spice" in it.
