The frenemies are fellow vigilantes who date back to Netflix's Daredevil. Fans were finally treated to The Punisher's return, as he helped Matt Murdock fight against Wilson Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force.
Soon after the characters reunite, the central conflict in their ideologies is apparent. The Season 1 finale offered the familiar banter and conflict of the characters, making their reunion memorable.
More on Daredevil and The Punisher's reunion in the Daredevil: Born Again finale in our story.
The Daredevil: Born Again season finale featured a reunion between Daredevil and The Punisher
The famous frenemies finally returned in the Daredevil: Born Again finale, and while The Punisher might not agree with his fellow vigilante's methods of justice, he cannot say no when a friend is in need. While Daredevil and The Punisher are far from buddies, their camaraderie is on full display whenever they are together on screen.
After Matt escapes Buck from the hospital, he is shocked to see The Punisher in his full glory at his apartment. But fans expecting an emotional reunion between the vigilantes might be in for disappointment because no greetings were shared, as there is no rest in the Daredevil: Born Again universe.
Soon after Matt realises that Karen Page summoned The Punisher to help his fellow vigilante, they are ambushed by Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force, all donned in Punisher's signature skull emblem.
Moments after Frank and Matt are placed in a difficult situation together, their clashing ideologies are on full display once again, and we realise why, while on the same side of the law, the two can never work together.
The Daredevil: Born Again finale gave a glimpse into Matt and Frank's clashing ideologies
The Daredevil: Born Again finale not only featured a long-awaited reunion of the two vigilantes, but their clashing ideologies were on full display. Soon after they meet, Frank asks Matt why he took a bullet for Fisk. But before Daredevil can answer, they are surrounded by Fisk's squad.
Their sudden ambush brings out the primary internal conflict between the two vigilantes: while Matt wants to wound them enough to knock them out, the Punisher doesn't believe in mercy or legal justice. In his world, justice can only be served through death, and that is exactly what he does to Fisk's army, who are also his fanboys:
"I'm not playing pattycake with these fanboys. I'm chopping 'em up, you understand me?"
While Matt and Frank bicker on the right ways to serve justice, they figure out that Cole North, disguised as the Punisher, killed the White Tiger. While Frank urges Matt to take the same route as Cole and kill him, he refuses, not succumbing to his dark side.
While The Punisher was finally captured and locked in Fisk's cage, the post-credits scene in Daredevil: Born Again finale teases that the vigilante's journey is far from over in the MCU, and he will return in Season 2.
