Reacher Season 3 Episode 5 'Smackdown' aired on Amazon Prime on Thursday, March 6 at 12 AM PT/3 AM ET. This episode was filled with twists and devastating losses, as Jack Reacher inches closer to exposing Quinn's operations. However, what caught the attention of the Reacher fans, was a face-off between Paulie and Reacher.
The scene unfolds as Annette, a French housemaid and undercover ATF agent, is exposed by Quinn's men. Without hesitation, Quinn's enforcer, Paulie, delivers a brutal punch to her face, sending her crashing to the ground. As Annette lies battered, Paulie remains unfazed—showing no hint of remorse. Instead, he simply smirks and mutters, "Oops.
"This enraged Reacher as he grew furious at Paulie for being insensitive and punched his abdomen. However, it did not affect the gigantic Paulie and he stood strong. Paulie punched Reacher in his face and knocked him down on the ground. Reacher for the first time seemed shocked at Paulie's strength.
Internet reacts to Reacher V/S Paulie scene in Reacher Season 3 Episode 5
Reacher fans were quite shocked after witnessing the Paulie and Reacher face-off in Episode 5. On the Reacher Season 3 Episode 5 'Smackdown' discussion thread on the Reddit channel r/reacher, a Reddit user thunderous2007 wrote,
"Reacher finally found a dude he can't take on"
Not just Reacher, viewers also got quite shocked as they saw their Herculean lead being smashed down by Paulie. A Reddit user nayaaccount786 commented,
"Reacher's one punch was enough to make Harley barf but it was like a tickle to Paulie. Pretty sure Reacher wasn't holding back when he punched Paulie."
The internet also has some future advice for Reacher fighting Paulie. A Reddit user, gusvianadev, suggested Reacher use a gun or BJJ to tackle gigantic Paulie, the user wrote,
"I honestly hope he just uses a gun. Like, he recognizes he can't beat him 1 on 1 so he just shoots him and points out that he was just smarter (I have a gun, you don't). Another good way would be to beat him 1 on 1 but by showing that Reacher is a much more skilled fighter than Paulie. Maybe some BJJ or submission tactic to break his limb by limb or something like that. Or even a knife fight. Either way, it will be an interesting fight"

Reacher's strength is unmatched with his physical power allowing him to overpower any adversary in hand-to-hand combat. However, Quinn's bodyguard's strength left the internet amazed.
What happened in Reacher Season 3 Episode 5?
The episode kicks off with a pulse-pounding sequence at a remote tubing facility, where Quinn's gang is relentlessly hunting Susan Duffy and Guillermo Villanueva. The two had arrived at the facility in search of Agent Doll's laptop, unaware that danger was closing in. Earlier, Susan and the federal agent had tracked the location while investigating the disappearance of undercover agent Teresa Daniels, who vanished from Zachary Beck's mansion.
Reacher, contacts Agent Steve Elliot to reach Duffy and the agent via landline as Quinn's men are on a hunt. Even though Reacher manages to somehow tackle the dangerous situation, the episode also sees the death of certain characters, including DEA agent Steven Elliot. Steve Elliot was watching over bodyguard John Cooper who was previously captured by Agent Duffy and her team. Cooper kills Steve Elliot most strangely by spitting alcohol on a cigarette flame and burning the DEA agent. Cooper then set himself free and stomped on his head killing him in a gruesome manner.
This leads to a hunt by Quinn's men and a thorough search among the staff of the mansion. Annette, an undercover ATF agent, is caught and Paulie brutally slaps her and smashes her to the ground. Reacher punches Paulie in his abdomen, however, the bodyguard remains unaffected. Paulie then knocks Reacher to the ground with a single punch.
The episode ends with a major cliffhanger as Beck tells Reacher that they are called to meet Quinn in the Bizarre Bazaar. Reacher has been waiting to meet Quinn, to avenge his former mentee Dominique Kohl's death.
