On her Instagram, Madonna shared a backstage picture with Elton John from Saturday Night Live. This post was made on April 7, 2025. This marks the end of a decades-long beef between the two singers, which started around the 2000s.

Elton John appeared as a musical guest in the most recent Saturday Night Live episode along with Brandi Carlile. The installment was hosted by Jack Black, and Madonna revealed that she was in the audience.

As the two met backstage, they talked things over and forgave each other. The Instagram post also teases a possible collaboration between the two globally acclaimed artists, and fans are here for it.

It was around the Y2K that John did not hesitate to publicly share his opinion about Madonna. In 2002, he said her song, "Die Another Day," was the "worst Bond tune ever." John claimed that it does not have a tune at all.

He even called out Madonna for lip-syncing during her live performances. But all of that is in the past now, as it is made clear by her post. Captioning the picture of the two sharing a side hug backstage at Studio 8H, Madonna wrote,

"We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!! I went to see @eltonjohn perform on SNL this weekend!! WOW."

Saturday Night Live - Madonna and Elton John make up backstage

Madonna went to see Elton John perform live on Saturday Night Live, resulting in a beautiful reunion of the two artists. She revealed that going backstage and talking to him ultimately led them to forgive their past woes.

Sharing her experience as an Elton John fan since she was a kid in high school, Madonna continued in the caption, saying,

"I remembered when I was in high school- I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit! It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music."

She added,

"Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life. I had always felt like an outsider growing up and watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different-to stand out- to take the road, less traveled by. In fact, it was essential."

Given the fact that she loved his music and aura so much and appreciated him for being different from the rest, it had "hurt" her in the past that Elton did not share the same feelings towards her. She claimed not understanding the "dislike" that he shared of her "publicly as an artist."

Thus, when it was brought to her attention that Elton John was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, she "decided to go." After meeting with him backstage, the two shared their feelings, and Madonna wrote,

"I needed to go backstage and confront him. When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was, 'Forgive Me,' and the wall between us fell down. Forgiveness is a powerful tool. Within minutes. We were hugging. Then he told me he had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!! And you can tell everybody, This is Your Song………."

Fans are speculating that the last line of this post might be a hint at the name of the collaboration track that Madonna has revealed.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC weekly on Sundays, and the latest episodes are all available to stream online on Peacock.
